[HANOI Railway Village]

Maybe, for visitors, this sence is quite strange and a little bit horrifying. However, for the people who are living here, the train is a familiar image. No one thinks that living next to the railway is dangerous since they have got so used to the railway life here.

This railway is about 20km around Hanoi, starting from Hanoi Railway Station (Tran Quy Cap street), crossing Long Bien Bridge towards the suburbs, to the provinces of Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Thai Nguyen, Lang Son and Hai Phong.

Although these households are only 2-3 meters from the track, residents here still keep on doing their daily tasks normally like their life by the railway is not at risk. The reason is because people here know the train schedule like the back of their hands. Whenever the train arrives, they will step aside and get back on track after it leaves.

Have you ever visited this place? Spare a thought about it!

TRADITIONAL VIETNAMESE WOMEN'S COSTUMES

Through the ups and downs of history and the interaction among cultures in the process of integration, the Vietnamese women’s clothes also witness many changes to suit the development of the modern world.

However, we can not forget the costumes that have always symbolized the beauty of the Vietnamese women since the old days.

Today, I’ll introduce to you two types of them: AO TU THAN and AO DAI

✔️ AO TU THAN or four-part dress was worn widely by women centuries before the Ao Dai. The four-piece tunic is made up of two pieces of cloth on the back and two pieces separated and tied together at the front. These are dropped in front of the belly to create soft and flexible feeling while moving. A silk sash which is tied at the waist as a belt. AO TU THAN usually goes with a pair of wooden clogs, a shaped scarf and a Non Quai Thao (a flat palm hat). AO TU THAN was often made with plain fabric in dark colors in the past but now when it is worn at special occasions such as festivals or weddings, it is more colorful.

✔️ AO DAI is a really popular Vietnamese traditional garment, now most commonly worn by women but can also be worn by men. In its current form, it is a tight-fitting silk tunic worn over trousers. It is split all the way from the waist down, contouring the pants. Due to its thin fabric, AO DAI we see today is tight-fitting, which accentuates and flatters the women’s curves. Unlike other traditional costumes, it remains its popularity in the modern life and is women favorite dress in special events like Tet, weddings, graduation,... Nowadays there are also many other new versions of Ao Dai with shorter tunics over a skirt or leggings

Overall, these clothes which are popular or not still play an important role in the revolution of Vietnamese women's costumes!

A FOOD TOUR ON TA HIEN STREET IN THIS WORLD CUP SEASON!!

Located in the heart of Hanoi Old Quarter, Ta Hien Street, was named the “international crossroads, intersects with Hang Bac Street and Hang Buom Street. This street has been in the list of “must-go places in Hanoi” of both domestic and foreign visitors.

During WORLD CUP, the busy life style, esp. at night, makes this street even more crowded and bustle.

Besides sipping the specialty “Cool Beer” ( at very reasonable price), people should not miss amazing street food here.

1, Combo nem chua ran ( fried fermented pork sausage) and fries
You can find this in any corner of the street at a affordable price ( 50.000VND/ a dish of nem chua ran and 30.000VND/ dish of fries)

2. Chicken feet marinated with lemon grass and chilli
Despite its appearance ( maybe not so appetizing to some people), it’s flavorful with sweet, sour and a little bit of spicy taste. It’s popular among Vietnamese as a snack and I recommend you try this at least once.
Price of on dish is 40.000VND and you can easily find this on Ta Hien Street.

3. Nem phung (18 Ta Hien)
Pork meat and pork skin is mixed with powdered roasted rice , wrapped in green herbs, eaten with fig leaves and sauce or chilli sauce.
It is only 7.000VND to 10.000VND to have a simple dish that goes well with your cool glass of beer.

4. Grilled Quails (5B Ta Hien)
Bird meat is marinated in five hours before being grilled so that the meat is soft but still keeps it aroma. One dish here is around 50.000VND
With its delicious and cheap dishes, this street restaurant has been a favorable place for many foreigners and vietnamese people.

This is The Café Apartment in Saigon. It is neither a shophouse nor a mall, but is on a league of its own. What used to be an apartment building has been converted into a space that conveys just how much the Vietnamese love their coffee. Its modern design prove the development of Vietnam in the presence

Whereas in Hanoi, there are many old apartment blocks and some owners have their small coffee shops located there. Their vintage decoration ideas really "cho tôi một vé về tuổi thơ" ( which means Give me a ticket back to my Childhood)

I feel like traveling back in time with some snack, video games and music that remind me of Subsidy period in Vietnam back then...

There are such coffee shops as Cu Xa Coffee, Tracce Cafe, MaisondeMerin, Căng tin 109, Lutulata,...

If you haven't been there, I recommend you pay a visit as it'll help you in some way feel the sense of old Vietnam in those years. Esp. for those who want to learn about Vietnam culture

Understand people then understand culture right?
