[Sample Writing Task 1]: Line graph
The first graph details the data on commuters by train at one-year intervals from 2000. The second line chart illustrates the proportion of trains running punctually.
Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that the trend for train passengers was less consistent though it was an increase overall. Although the data on the departure of trains on time rose, it was generally below the target.
Looking first at the first graph, train passengers began the period with about 38 million, increased gradually to roughly 43 million in 2002, after which it decreased to return to the starting point one year later. After 2003, the figure grew rapidly to a high of nearly 50 million, then dropped progressively to 40 million in 2008, before rebounding to approximately 45 million to culminate the period.
Turning to the second graph, the punctuality goal was consistently set at 95%. From 2000 to 2004, trains running on time increased steadily with varying rates (92% to 96%) and the convergence of the target. After 2004, the data dropped significantly to the starting point in 2006, despite converging with the target in the middle of the course, at which point this percentage soared to a peak of 97% in 2008, prior to leveling out by the end.
