😙 HOW TO ADDRESS PEOPLE IN VIETNAMESE 😙
Anh, chị, em, cô, chú, bác - which one should you use?

Ever wondered why Vietnamese has so many ways to say “I” and “you”? 😵‍💫

In Vietnamese, pronouns often change depending on age, relationship, and situation. So instead of translating “I = tôi” and “you = bạn” every time, it’s more useful to ask: “Who am I talking to?”

👉 Here’s a simple beginner guide:

→ Younger than you: em 👧
→ Slightly older man: anh 👨‍🦰
→ Slightly older woman: chị 👩‍🦰
→ Woman around your parents’ age: cô 👱‍♀️
→ Man around your parents’ age: chú 🧔‍♂️
→ Someone older than your parents: bác 👩‍🦱🧔

💡 Beginner tip: Age is a good starting point, but relationship and context matter too. The “right” pronoun can change depending on whether you’re talking to a stranger, teacher, coworker, family member, or friend

Save this post for your next Vietnamese conversation. ✨

🇻🇳 Are you A1 or A2 in Vietnamese? 👀

Instead of asking, “How many Vietnamese words do I know?”, try asking:

What can I actually DO in Vietnamese?

🤔Can you introduce yourself?
☕ Order food and drinks?
📍 Ask for directions?
🗓️ Talk about your plans?
🗣️ Tell someone what happened yesterday?
😵 Explain a simple problem and ask for help?

Swipe through these **10 Can-Do Statements** and see how many you can confidently say YES to.

If you’re comfortable handling basic everyday situations, you may be around A1. 🌱

If you can also talk about past experiences, future plans, describe things in more detail, and give simple reasons for your opinions, you may be moving into A2 🌿

Of course, this is only a quick self-check not a full level assessment.

🇻🇳 When “Maybe” Doesn’t Really Mean Maybe 👀

If a Vietnamese person says “để mình xem đã”… what percentage chance do you think they’ll actually say yes? 😂

Vietnamese has a special talent for keeping the answer… open. 😭

You might hear:

👀 Để mình xem đã.
→ Let me check / think about it first.

🧮 Để tính.
→ I’ll think about it / figure it out later.

📱 Có gì mình báo.
→ I’ll let you know.

🫠 Tính sau đi.
→ We’ll deal with it later.

They can all sound a little like “maybe” in English but they don’t feel exactly the same.

And here’s the tricky part: None of them exactly mean “no”…but none of them mean “yes” either. 😂

That’s one of the fun things about real-life Vietnamese: sometimes, instead of giving a direct answer, we leave a little room for… possibility. 👀

So next time your Vietnamese friend says “có gì mình báo nha”...maybe don’t clear your whole calendar just yet. 😭

Which one have you heard or used the most?

🇻🇳Vietnamese B1 & B2 Exam Format: What Should You Expect?📝

💁If you are preparing for a Vietnamese B1 or B2 proficiency test, understanding the exam format can save you a lot of confusion on test day.

A typical university-format Vietnamese proficiency test may assess all four skills:

🎧 Listening: understand questions, conversations and longer spoken texts
📖 Reading: identify main ideas, details and meaning from different passages
✍️ Writing:complete written tasks, respond to prompts and develop structured ideas
🗣️ Speaking: answer questions, compare options, explain your choice and discuss a topic

✅At B1, you are usually expected to communicate clearly about familiar topics and give simple reasons.

✅At B2, your answers need to become more developed: you connect ideas, explain your reasoning, add relevant details and express your opinion more precisely.

🤓 So preparing for B2 is not just about learning more vocabulary or harder grammar.

You also need to practise:
📝 working with real exam-style tasks
⏱️ managing your time
✍️ structuring your writing
🗣️ developing longer speaking answers
🔎 understanding exactly what each task is asking you to do

💁That is why EPV B2 Prep includes:
🔹 Mock tests
🔹Detailed writing correction
🔹University-format practice materials
🔹Speaking practice
🔹Exam strategy and task familiarisation

➡️Preparing for a Vietnamese B1 or B2 exam for university, graduation or another academic requirement?
