✨VINUNIVERSITY - COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES (VINUNI - CAS) SIGNS COOPERATION AGREEMENT WITH ULSTER UNIVERSITY✨

On the afternoon of June 4, the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at VinUniversity and Ulster University (United Kingdom) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), marking an important milestone in expanding international partnership network and strengthening academic collaboration between the two institutions.

The signing ceremony was attended by Professor Umberto Ansaldo, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS); Dr. David Guimond, Program Director of Multimedia Communications; Ms. Bùi Thanh Hạnh, Director of Global Engagement at VinUniversity; as well as faculty and staff members of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Representing Ulster University were Dr. Victoria McCollum, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Dr. Murat Akser, Senior Lecturer and Director of MA in Film and Television; and Ms. Blaise Carty, South and Southeast Asia Student Recruitment Coordinator.

As one of the United Kingdom’s leading universities in the fields of arts, media, and the creative industries, Ulster University offers an educational ecosystem closely connected to professional practice and supported by an extensive international partnership network. This agreement provides a foundation for future academic exchanges, research collaboration, curriculum development, and stronger connections between faculty members and students from both institutions.

Through this partnership, VinUniversity students, particularly those in the Multimedia Communications program, will have opportunities to participate in academic exchange programs at Ulster University, experience an international learning environment, and learn from experienced professionals in media, film, and the creative industries. The collaboration also opens new pathways for students to expand their global networks, strengthen their professional competencies, and gain valuable experience in an increasingly internationalized media landscape.

Chiều ngày 4/6, Viện Khoa học và Giáo dục Khai phóng (CAS) - Trường Đại học VinUni và Trường Đại học Ulster (Vương quốc Anh) đã chính thức ký kết Biên bản Ghi nhớ Hợp tác (Memorandum of Understanding - MOU), đánh dấu một cột mốc quan trọng trong quá trình mở rộng mạng lưới đối tác quốc tế và thúc đẩy hợp tác học thuật giữa hai cơ sở giáo dục.

Buổi lễ có sự tham dự của Giáo sư Umberto Ansaldo - Viện trưởng Viện Khoa học và Giáo dục Khai phóng (CAS), Tiến sĩ David Guimond - Giám đốc Chương trình Truyền thông Đa phương tiện, cô Bùi Thanh Hạnh - Giám đốc Hợp tác Quốc tế tại đại học VinUni, cùng các giảng viên và cán bộ của Viện Khoa học và Giáo dục Khai phóng.

Về phía Ulster University, buổi lễ có sự hiện diện của Tiến sĩ Victoria McCollum - Phó Viện trưởng Viện Nghệ thuật, Nhân văn và Khoa học Xã hội, Tiến sĩ Murat Akser - Giảng viên Cao cấp, Giám đốc chương trình Thạc sĩ Điện ảnh và Truyền hình, và bà Blaise Carty - Điều phối Tuyển sinh khu vực Nam Á và Đông Nam Á.

Là một trong những trường đại học uy tín của Vương quốc Anh trong lĩnh vực nghệ thuật, truyền thông và công nghiệp sáng tạo, Trường Đại học Ulster sở hữu hệ sinh thái đào tạo gắn kết chặt chẽ với thực tiễn nghề nghiệp và mạng lưới hợp tác quốc tế rộng khắp. Thỏa thuận hợp tác giữa hai bên sẽ tạo nền tảng cho các hoạt động trao đổi học thuật, nghiên cứu, phát triển chương trình đào tạo và kết nối đội ngũ giảng viên, sinh viên trong thời gian tới.

Thông qua thỏa thuận này, sinh viên VinUni, đặc biệt là sinh viên ngành Truyền thông Đa phương tiện, sẽ có cơ hội tham gia các chương trình trao đổi học thuật tại Trường Đại học Ulster, tiếp cận môi trường học tập quốc tế, học hỏi từ các chuyên gia giàu kinh nghiệm trong lĩnh vực truyền thông, điện ảnh và công nghiệp sáng tạo. Đồng thời, hợp tác này cũng mở ra những cơ hội mới để sinh viên mở rộng mạng lưới kết nối toàn cầu, phát triển năng lực chuyên môn và tích lũy trải nghiệm trong bối cảnh ngành công nghiệp truyền thông đang ngày càng mang tính quốc tế.

🚀 CAS PATHWAYS EP.8 | THE SHAPE OF A LIFE BETWEEN COUNTRIES: DIPLOMACY, CULTURE, AND THE ART OF HUMAN CONNECTION

In the context of global integration, for every student, building a career is no longer centered solely around a single profession, one country, or a fixed pathway, but has also become a journey of self-discovery, cultural connection, and finding meaning through multidimensional experiences.

Recognizing the questions, uncertainties, and reflections students encounter along this journey, on May 21, the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) successfully hosted a session in the CAS Pathways series titled“The Shape of a Life Between Countries: Diplomacy, Culture, and the Art of Human Connection”, offering participants the opportunity to gain deeper perspectives on diplomacy, culture, education, and career-building in a globalized world.

The conversation was hosted by Mr. Tada Lê - Faculty of CAS, featuring Mr. Sean Boda, Cultural Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam, and Dr. Lena Lê, Lecturer in International Relations, College of Arts and Sciences.

Through authentic reflections drawn from his experience working at the intersection of diplomacy, cultural exchange, education, and community engagement, Mr. Sean Boda offered a relatable and multidimensional perspective on the world of diplomacy - one that extends beyond familiar notions of politics or formal diplomatic meetings. Going beyond career narratives alone, the conversation also explored the deeply human dimensions of shaping one’s professional path, from personal identity and intellectual curiosity to the ability to build cross-cultural connections. Within this reflection, the speaker also highlighted the unexpected but meaningful role of personal passions, such as video games and the art of storytelling, in one’s journey of professional development.

Joining the conversation, Dr. Lena Lê contributed an academic perspective on international relations, cultural diplomacy, and interdisciplinary career pathways for students interested in communication, psychology, economics, humanities, and global affairs. The open exchanges between the speakers and participating students sparked meaningful reflections on how individuals can build a life and career that transcend geographical borders, disciplinary boundaries, and traditional definitions of success.

🚀 CAS PATHWAYS: KIẾN TẠO MỘT CUỘC SỐNG XUYÊN QUỐC GIA: NGOẠI GIAO, VĂN HOÁ VÀ NGHỆ THUẬT KẾT NỐI CON NGƯỜI

Trong bối cảnh hội nhập toàn cầu, đối với mỗi sinh viên, việc xây dựng sự nghiệp không còn chỉ xoay quanh một ngành nghề, một quốc gia hay một lộ trình cố định, mà còn là hành trình khám phá bản thân, kết nối văn hoá và tìm kiếm ý nghĩa trong những trải nghiệm đa chiều.

Thấu hiểu những băn khoăn và trăn trở của sinh viên trên hành trình ấy, ngày 21/5 vừa qua, Viện Khoa học và Giáo dục Khai phóng (CAS) đã tổ chức thành công buổi trò chuyện thuộc chuỗi CAS Pathways với chủ đề “Kiến tạo một cuộc sống xuyên quốc gia: Ngoại giao, Văn hoá và Nghệ thuật Kết nối con người”, mang đến cho người tham dự cơ hội lắng nghe những góc nhìn sâu sắc về ngoại giao, văn hoá, giáo dục và hành trình xây dựng sự nghiệp trong bối cảnh toàn cầu.

Buổi trò chuyện được dẫn dắt bởi thầy Tada Lê - Giảng viên Viện Khoa học và Giáo dục Khai phóng, với sự tham gia của ông Sean Boda - Tùy viên Văn hóa, Đại sứ quán Hoa Kỳ tại Việt Nam và Tiến sĩ Lena Lê - Giảng viên Quan hệ Quốc tế, Viện Khoa học và Giáo dục Khai phóng.

Thông qua những chia sẻ chân thực từ hành trình làm việc tại giao điểm giữa ngoại giao, giao lưu văn hoá, giáo dục và kết nối cộng đồng, ông Sean Boda đã mang đến một góc nhìn gần gũi và đa chiều về thế giới của ngành ngoại giao -vượt ra ngoài những khuôn mẫu quen thuộc về chính trị hay các cuộc gặp gỡ chính thức. Không chỉ dừng lại ở câu chuyện nghề nghiệp, buổi trò chuyện còn mở rộng sang những khía cạnh rất con người của việc định hình sự nghiệp, từ bản sắc cá nhân, sự tò mò tri thức đến khả năng kết nối liên văn hoá. Trong dòng suy ngẫm ấy, diễn giả cũng nhấn mạnh vai trò bất ngờ nhưng đầy ý nghĩa của những đam mê cá nhân như trò chơi điện tử hay nghệ thuật kể chuyện trong hành trình phát triển chuyên môn.

Đồng hành cùng cuộc trò chuyện, Tiến sĩ Lena Lê đã bổ sung góc nhìn học thuật về quan hệ quốc tế, ngoại giao văn hoá và các lộ trình nghề nghiệp liên ngành dành cho sinh viên quan tâm tới truyền thông, tâm lý học, kinh tế, khoa học nhân văn và các vấn đề toàn cầu. Những trao đổi cởi mở giữa diễn giả và sinh viên tham dự đã góp phần khơi mở nhiều suy ngẫm về cách mỗi cá nhân có thể kiến tạo một cuộc sống và sự nghiệp vượt qua biên giới địa lý, lĩnh vực chuyên môn và những định nghĩa truyền thống về thành công.

🎤 CAS TALK: REVISIT THE BOOK “GOODBYE ISLAVE” WITH PROFESSOR JACK LINCHUAN QIU 🎤

On May 15, the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) hosted a CAS Talk on the critical topic of labour issues in the movement of technology in this modern world. Led by Professor Jack Linchuan Qiu, Dean of the School of Communication and Information at Nanyang Technological University and an outstanding writer and scholar, the talk offered an academic perspective on the impact of the digital economy on the workforce and social behaviours.

Drawing on the content from his book “Goodbye iSlave”, Professor Jack Linchuan Qiu introduced historical and social perspectives on the transformation of labour in a digital era. The talk also reflected on different definitions regarding the history of dependent and industrial labour and how the working environment has shifted in the age of the Internet and digital platforms. Throughout the talk, participants had an opportunity to openly discuss the relationship between humans and technology, especially how the Internet and social media profoundly impact our day-to-day habits and communication.

The CAS Talk encouraged discussion on the independence of each individual and the community in utilising time and technology in everyday life. Thus, it promoted multidimensional thoughts on the relationship between humans and digital platforms, suggesting sustainable approaches to electronic devices.

🎙️ CAS TALK: NHÌN LẠI VẤN ĐỀ ĐƯỢC GỢI RA TỪ CUỐN SÁCH “GOODBYE ISLAVE” CÙNG GIÁO SƯ JACK LINCHUAN QIU 🎙️

Ngày 11/05 vừa qua, Viện Khoa học và Giáo dục Khai phóng (CAS) đã tổ chức thành công buổi CAS Talk với chủ đề phức tạp xoay quanh các vấn đề lao động và công nghệ trong xã hội đương đại. Dưới sự dẫn dắt của giáo sư Jack Linchuan Qiu - một học giả, tác giả uy tín và là Trưởng khoa Truyền thông và Thông tin, Đại học Công nghệ Nanyang (NTU), Singapore, buổi trò chuyện đã mang đến nhiều góc nhìn học thuật về tác động của nền kinh tế số đối với đời sống lao động và hành vi xã hội hiện nay.

Dựa trên những nội dung được trình bày trong công trình “Goodbye iSlave” (Tạm dịch: “Tạm biệt n.ô. l.ệ công nghệ”), Giáo sư Jack Linchuan Qiu đã giới thiệu những phân tích mang tính lịch sử và xã hội học xoay quanh sự thay đổi của người lao động trong kỷ nguyên kỹ thuật số. Buổi trò chuyện đồng thời đề cập đến các khái niệm liên quan đến lao động phụ thuộc, lịch sử lao động công nghiệp, cũng như sự chuyển dịch của môi trường làm việc trong thời đại Internet và nền tảng số. Xuyên suốt chương trình, người tham dự có cơ hội cùng thảo luận về mối quan hệ giữa con người và công nghệ, đặc biệt là cách Internet và mạng xã hội đang tác động đến thói quen sống, làm việc và kết nối của mỗi cá nhân.

🌟 CAS x UPENN ON STUDY TOUR TO VINUNIVERSITY 🌟

On May 16, the College of Arts and Sciences of VinUniversity (CAS) was delighted to welcome exchange students from the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn), our important academic partner, on a study tour throughout the day. The event is organised by VinUni Global Engagement Office, collaborating with CAS, aiming to introduce exchange buddies to the vibrant university life of VinUni students, including both academic aspects and cultural exchange experiences.

The study tour started with an inspiring talk from Dr. Jason Picard, Faculty of CAS, regarding the topic “Vietnam, Past and Present”. The session introduced fascinating aspects of the history and development of Vietnam, ranging from architecture to culture and ideology. Taken from years of experience in in-depth research about Vietnam, Professor Jason conveyed to the students a multidimensional perspective on Vietnamese identity, while evoking critical thoughts regarding its transformation in the development journey. The talk ended with an open discussion on the origin of the Vietnamese language and literature from the perspective of international students.

After the talk, the schedule continued with a campus tour of VinUniversity. By going sightseeing in the traditional room, champion of change spaces, campus model, and the camel wall, CAS and UPenn students had a great time exploring and networking together. Especially, the tour members were fascinated by listening to the strategic partnership of VinUniversity and the University of Pennsylvania and watching the highlighted moments of this journey captured in photos.

This experience is a special chance for students to interact, connect, and widen their international academic experience with VinUni’s partner universities. Thus, it strengthens the partnership between VinUni and UPenn, while also encouraging students’ bonds and goodwill in collaboration.

🌟 CAS x UPENN TRONG QUÁ TRÌNH GIAO LƯU VÀ KHÁM PHÁ VINUNIVERSITY 🌟

Vào ngày 16/5, Viện Khoa học và Giáo dục Khai phóng (CAS) hân hoan đón tiếp đoàn sinh viên trao đổi đến từ đối tác quan trọng: Trường Đại học Pennsylvania (UPenn), cho chuyến tham quan và trải nghiệm môi trường học tập tại VinUniversity. Sự kiện được tổ chức bởi Phòng Hợp tác Quốc tế - Đại học VinUni cùng phối hợp với CAS, nhằm giới thiệu tới bạn bè quốc tế về môi trường học tập năng động và đời sống sinh viên đa dạng tại VinUni, từ các hoạt động học thuật đến những trải nghiệm ngoại khóa và giao lưu văn hóa.

Buổi giao lưu bắt đầu bằng một bài nói ấn tượng của Phó giáo sư - tiến sĩ Jason Picard với chủ đề “Việt Nam, Quá khứ và Hiện tại”. Trong tiết học đặc biệt này, thầy Jason Picard giới thiệu về lịch sử và quá trình phát triển của Việt Nam trên nhiều phương diện, trải dài từ kiến trúc đến văn hóa và tư tưởng. Dựa trên nhiều năm nghiên cứu chuyên sâu về Việt Nam, thầy mang đến cho sinh viên một cách tiếp cận đa chiều về căn tính và bản sắc Việt, đồng thời gợi mở suy ngẫm về sự chuyển mình của Việt Nam trong tiến trình phát triển. Buổi trao đổi kết thúc bằng một cuộc thảo luận cởi mở về cội nguồn ngôn ngữ và văn học Việt Nam từ góc nhìn của thế hệ trẻ quốc tế.

Đây là cơ hội để sinh viên giao lưu, kết nối và mở rộng trải nghiệm học thuật quốc tế cùng các sinh viên đến từ trường đại học đối tác của VinUni. Thông qua hoạt động này, mối quan hệ hợp tác giữa VinUni và UPenn tiếp tục được củng cố, đồng thời tạo điều kiện thúc đẩy sự gắn kết và trao đổi giữa sinh viên hai bên trong tinh thần cởi mở và hợp tác.

📌 WHAT IS “VINUNI WELLBEING CHANGEMAKER CONTEST”?
An idea challenge inviting VinUni students to design real, practical initiatives that improve well-being across campus, across five domains:
- Mental Well-being
- Social Well-being
- Physical Well-being
- Academic Well-being
- Environmental Well-being
📌 TIMELINE
⭐ Phase 1 (May 15 - 29): Submit your idea
Write a brief text proposal (up to 5 pages) in English describing the problem, your solution, and the change you hope to see.

- June 5: Announce the top 10 teams selected for the pitching round to a panel of faculty, counsellors, and fellow students.

✨ CAS TALK: EXPLORING THE VALUE OF JAPANESE AESTHETICS IN THE MODERN WORLD WITH PROFESSOR MINH NGUYEN✨

On May 11, the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) successfully hosted a CAS Talk on the thought-provoking topic: “What Good Is Japanese Aesthetics?” Led by Professor A. Minh Nguyen, a distinguished scholar in Philosophy from Florida Gulf Coast University, the session offered participants an intellectually enriching space that inspired deeper reflections on how we perceive and engage with the world around us.

Drawing on research from the forthcoming volume Contemporary Philosophical Perspectives on Japanese Aesthetics, Professor Minh Nguyen introduced contemporary perspectives on Japanese aesthetics while reconsidering many familiar Western assumptions about beauty and art. Rather than focusing solely on the “finished product” or ideals of perfection, Japanese aesthetics emphasizes lived experience, the interconnectedness between human beings and their environment, as well as the beauty found in the ordinary, the transient, and the imperfect aspects of everyday life.

Beyond the realm of art, the talk also opened up meaningful discussions on the relationship between beauty, spirituality, and moral values in contemporary society. Through the lens of Japanese aesthetics, participants were encouraged to reflect on the importance of peace, balance, and mindfulness in modern life. The session further invited multidimensional conversations surrounding current global challenges such as environmental crises and consumerism.

The CAS Talk fostered engaging academic exchanges and inspired participants in their exploration of Japanese cultural, philosophical, and aesthetic values within today’s rapidly changing world.

✨ CAS TALK: KHÁM PHÁ GIÁ TRỊ CỦA MỸ HỌC NHẬT BẢN TRONG THẾ GIỚI HIỆN ĐẠI CÙNG GIÁO SƯ MINH NGUYỄN✨

Ngày 11/05 vừa qua, Viện Khoa học và Giáo dục Khai phóng (CAS) đã tổ chức thành công buổi CAS Talk với chủ đề đầy gợi mở: “Giá trị của mỹ học Nhật Bản”. Dưới sự dẫn dắt của giáo sư Minh Nguyễn - một học giả uy tín trong lĩnh vực Triết học từ Đại học Florida Gulf Coast, buổi trò chuyện đã mang đến cho người người tham dự một không gian học thuật giàu chiều sâu, mở ra nhiều suy ngẫm về cách con người cảm nhận và hiện diện trong thế giới.

Dựa trên những nghiên cứu từ công trình sắp xuất bản “Contemporary Philosophical Perspectives on Japanese Aesthetics” (Tạm dịch: “Những quan điểm triết học đương đại về mỹ học Nhật Bản”, Giáo sư Minh Nguyễn đã giới thiệu những góc nhìn đương đại về mỹ học Nhật Bản, qua đó đặt lại nhiều câu hỏi về quan niệm thẩm mỹ quen thuộc của phương Tây . Thay vì chỉ tập trung vào “thành phẩm” hay vẻ đẹp hoàn hảo, mỹ học Nhật Bản đề cao quá trình trải nghiệm, sự gắn kết giữa con người với môi trường sống, cũng như vẻ đẹp của những điều bình dị, mong manh và không hoàn hảo trong đời sống thường nhật.

Không chỉ dừng lại ở phạm vi nghệ thuật, buổi trò chuyện còn gợi mở những suy tư sâu sắc về mối liên hệ giữa cái đẹp, đời sống tinh thần và các giá trị đạo đức trong xã hội đương đại. Qua lăng kính của mỹ học Nhật Bản, người tham dự được mời gọi nhìn nhận lại những giá trị cốt lõi của sự bình yên và sự cân bằng trong cuộc sống hiện đại. Buổi trò chuyện còn khuyến khích những suy ngẫm đa chiều về các vấn đề toàn cầu đương đại như khủng hoảng môi trường và chủ nghĩa tiêu dùng.

Buổi CAS Talk đã tạo nên nhiều trao đổi học thuật thú vị và truyền cảm hứng cho người tham dự trong hành trình khám phá những giá trị văn hóa, triết học và thẩm mỹ của Nhật Bản trong bối cảnh thế giới hôm nay.
