1. Âm thầm "sơ đồ hoá" nội dung cuộc trò chuyện

Người đối thoại thông minh không bao giờ để mình "lạc trôi" theo cuộc thảo luận, mà tỉnh táo phân tích, "sơ đồ hoá" các nội dung, từ đó dẫn dắt khéo léo cuộc nói chuyện. Cụ thể hơn, kỹ năng này bao gồm: Xác định trọng tâm và mục đích của thảo luận; Nhận ra khi nào mọi người đang "đi chệch đề tài"; Chuyển hướng đề tài khi mọi thứ trở nên kém hứng thú.
Có hai lý do tại sao các cuộc trao đổi trở nên nhàm chán. Thứ nhất: chẳng người nào còn gì để nói thêm về đề tài. Thứ hai: những gì nói ra quá sáo rỗng. Đó là khi một người đối thoại thông minh thể hiện vai trò của mình. "Nếu bạn có thể tách một nhánh ra khỏi dòng thảo luận đang cạn kiệt và bắt đầu lại theo hướng mới, thì cách này có vẻ hay hơn cả vì làm như vậy thì mọi người không cảm thấy cuộc thảo luận đã thất bại hoàn toàn"

2. Nói "không đồng ý" mà vẫn khiến người khác mát lòng mát dạ

Cho dù cụm từ "không đồng ý" chẳng ngọt ngào cho lắm, nó rất cần thiết khi phải công nhận sự thật, và để khám phá khi phải công nhận sự thật, và để khám phá các vấn đề thật khách quan và thấu đáo
Nói "không đồng ý" như thế nào cho tinh tế? Đầu tiên, cần thật nhã nhặn, lịch sự. Thay vì nói: "Điều đó sai hoàn toàn", hãy nói: "Đó không phải là quan điểm duy nhất về vấn đề này". Thay vì nói: "Cách lập luận như vậy không logic chút nào", hãy thay bằng: "Có thể có một cách khác để nhìn nhận vấn đề này".
Một tuyệt chiêu khác là mẹo "đồng ý một phần". Hãy tìm xem những trường hợp cá biệt nào phù hợp với quan điểm của người đối thoại, rồi cho biết bạn chỉ có thể đồng ý trong những trường hợp cụ thể này mà thôi.
Chẳng hạn, bạn có thể sẽ hoàn toàn không đồng ý với nhận xét "Phụ nữ thường mê tín, tin vào trò bói toán hơn đàn ông". Nhưng thay vì ngay lập tức nói "không", bạn thử nghĩ và nêu ra những tình huống cá biệt mà nhận xét này có thể đúng. (Ví dụ, trong thời kỳ phong kiến, khi phụ nữ thường không có quyền kiểm soát cuộc đời mình, có thể họ trở nên tin tưởng vào thần linh, số phận hơn đàn ông). Hãy nêu ra tình huống bạn "đồng ý một phần", đồng thời thể hiện những quan điểm riêng của mình.

3. Ngắt lời thông minh

Người ta thường ngại rằng ngắt lời là biểu hiện thiếu lịch sự, đôi khi gây cản trở nếu cắt ngang mạch ý tưởng của người khác. Nhìn chung thì ngắt lời không được khuyến khích lắm. Tuy nhiên, có những trường hợp lại rất cần đến. Chẳng hạn, nếu có ai đó chỉ lo nói, nói và nói, bạn rất cần biểu lộ cho anh ta biết đối thoại phải được tiến hành hai chiều.

Ngoài ra, ngắt lời để giúp mở rộng ý hay bổ sung thông tin cũng được khuyến khích. Đây là một cách gây cảm tình rất tốt. Bạn có thể dẫn chứng một số kinh nghiệm cá nhân, trình bày thêm số liệu thống kê... Tuy nhiên, nếu ngắt lời và nói một ý quá dài, bạn có thể làm hỏng mất mách ý tưởng của người nói, hãy biết tiết chế một chút!

4. Sử dụng óc hài hước

Một chút hài hước có thể gây ấn tượng sâu sắc. Óc hài hước làm dịu đi vấn đề, gia tăng tính thú vị của cuộc nói chuyện, cứu rỗi một bài trình bày khô khan. Hài hước còn khiến người nghe cảm nhận những điều nói ra nửa đùa nửa thật, một cách đề cập khá thông minh, phải không?
Lấy ví dụ, nếu một cấp trên có thói quen quản lý quá chi li, bạn có thể bảo rằng anh ta còn muốn biết cả thời gian mọi người đi đổ xăng cho xe nữa cơ (!) Tất nhiên, chẳng ai lại đi tin chuyện "biết thời gian đi đổ xăng" là có thật, nhưng câu nói này có hiệu quả gấp bội lần một lời góp ý nghiêm túc.

5. Tranh luận thú vị dù không phải là người "biết tuốt"

Cuối cùng, điều này liên quan đến vốn thông tin, kiến thức của một người khi tranh luận. Bạn cần bao nhiêu thông tin để tham dự một cuộc trao đổi? Những loại thông tin nào bạn cần trang bị cho đầu óc mình trước khi bước vào một cuộc thảo luận?
Một người đối thoại giỏi có khả năng xoay chuyển, làm cho một cuộc thảo luận luôn hào hứng từ mọi loại thông tin có được. Chỉ có đầu bếp giỏi mới chuẩn bị được một bữa ăn từ bất cứ nguyên liệu nào anh ta có. Cũng vậy, một tâm hồn đẹp có thể tham dự một cuộc thảo luận với bất kỳ cơ sở thông tin nào tích luỹ được.
Hầu như không thể có được toàn bộ thông tin về mọi chuyện. Chẳng hạn, bạn tới một bữa tiệc và mọi người đang trao đổi về chủ đề nhân bản vô tính. Bạn cần biết bao nhiêu về chuyện nhân bản vô tính để có thể tham dự một cuộc trao đổi này? Có thể bạn biết rằng chú cừu tên Dolly đã được nhân bản tại Anh, hay chú mèo tên CC nào đó đã được nhân bản tại Mỹ... Dù chỉ hiểu biết lờ mờ nhưng bạn hoàn toàn có thể nhận vai trò lắng nghe, đặt câu hỏi thông minh.
Và để cuộc thảo luận "có qua có lại" chứ không quá một chiều, thỉnh thoảng bạn cần tóm tắt những gì nghe được. Điều này giúp người nói biết được mức độ tiếp nhận của bạn, và giúp bạn nắm rõ lại mọi điều vừa nghe qua.
Về lâu dài, để nạp thêm kiến thức, bạn cần một chiến thuật kép. "Bạn cần có kiến thức tổng quát về những gì đang xảy ra trên thế giới. Đồng thời bạn cũng cần có hiểu biết về một vài lĩnh vực lý thú chuyên biệt nào đó, bạn nên tìm hiểu, khám phá thật kỹ lưỡng những lĩnh vực này". Với vốn kiến thức vừa tổng quát vừa chuyên biệt, bạn dễ dàng hơn trong những cuộc trao đổi "ngoài chuyên môn", đồng thời có nhiều cơ hội gây ấn tượng khi bàn đến những chủ đề "ruột".
