Introduction Vietanmese language and Vietnamese studies courses
Nowadays when the world is developed day by day, the distance in geography is very small and the language is much more important than the past. Of course, English is the international language in the world but other languages are becoming more and more popular. In Southeast Asia, Vietnamese is becoming the most popular language there.
In the world, Vietnamese has been taught in many famous universities, such as: Korean University of Foreign Language, Chungwoon University (Korea); Tokyo University of Foreign Language, Kanda University of Foreign Language (Japan); Beijing University, Guangxi University, Guangxi Ethnic University (China),v.v. Especially, more than 10 America’s Universities are members of the GUAVA program (Groups of Universities for the Advancement of Vietnamese in America): Harvard University, UCLA University, Cornel University, Yale University,v.v. In Thailand, Vietnamese and Vietnamese studies is being taught in over 20 universities: Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University, Mahasarakham University, Ubon Ratchathani University,v.v. Many European Universities (Germany, Poland) have Vietnamese Department and Vietnamese studies.
So the question is, why is Vietnamese becoming the most popular language in Southeast Asia ? It is due to the fact that Vietnam is the idle destination for businessmen and tourists. The bilateral and multilateral cooperations between Vietnam and other countries are also important reasons for it.
In Vietnam, there are about 135,000 Korean people who are living and working there, and in Korea, the number of Vietnamese people is around 123,000. The demand for learning Vietnamese in both countries are huge, not only for businessmen but also for Korea – Vietnam families. More than that, Vietnamese is one of eight - second elective foreign language that is required for the entrance exam of universities in Korea.
Vietnamese is also popular in China. It is being taught in over 30 universities (Beijing University, Beijing University of Foreign Language, Shanghai University of Foreign Language, Guangxi Ethnic University,v.v.) and many Foreign Language Centers there.
The number of Vietnamese people in Japan is impressive, 260,000 in a total of 2,560,000 temporary residence (Data in 2017). And it is growing year by year. Because of this, Vietnamese is becoming more and more popular in Japan, for business purpose as well as for tourists, study purpose.
Beside it, Vietnamese is also one of the main foreign language in Lao, Campuchia due to the close relationship between Vietnam and Lao, Campuchia.
From the above points, Vietnamese is worth for you to learn and to know about Vietnamese culture. First of all, the Vietnamese studies in HaUI is not only focused on Vietnamese language but also for Vietnamese culture. Vietnamese for specialized subjects relating to electronics, office administration, tourism – hotels, mechanics, textiles, fashion are also taught in our elective subjects.
Second, HaUI has a group of lecturers, from Foreign Language Department, with a lot of experience in teaching Vietnamese as well as other languages (Kore, China, Japan) for foreign students.
