🇻🇳 SEPTEMBER 2ND – VIETNAM’S NATIONAL DAY
Throughout the thousands of years of Vietnam’s history, there are certain dates that are not merely marked on the calendar, but are deeply engraved in the memory of every Vietnamese person. September 2nd, 1945 is one such day – the day when a nation stood up and affirmed its right to live, its right to freedom, and its right to determine its own destiny.
81 years ago, at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi, amidst a sea of enthusiastic and deeply moved people, President Ho Chi Minh, on behalf of the Provisional Government, read the Declaration of Independence, proclaiming to the Vietnamese people and the world the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
That historic moment not only marked the end of a period in which the Vietnamese people lived under oppression, but also opened a new chapter in the nation’s history – the history of an independent Vietnam.
“Vietnam has the right to enjoy freedom and independence, and in fact has become a free and independent country.”
Behind that historic day was a long journey filled with hardship and sacrifice. For many years, the Vietnamese people lived in a country that had lost its independence, enduring oppression, poverty, hunger, and suffering. Generation after generation rose up in struggle. Countless Vietnamese people sacrificed their youth, happiness, and even their lives in exchange for two sacred words: Independence.
Therefore, September 2nd is not simply a national holiday. It is a day for every Vietnamese person today to look back on the past and understand that the peace, freedom, and peaceful life we enjoy today have never been something that came naturally.
Every red flag with a golden star flying on National Day is a reminder of our history. Every heroic melody that echoes through the streets reminds us of the generations who lived through war. And every smile of a child growing up in peace today represents one of the most beautiful meanings of the word peace.
81 years have passed.
Vietnam today has entered a new chapter. Roads have become more open, cities have continued to develop, and younger generations have the opportunity to study, dream, and freely choose their own futures. Yet alongside development comes the responsibility of every generation: to cherish what was achieved through the sweat, tears, and blood of our predecessors, while continuing to contribute to building a stronger, more civilized, and better Vietnam.
Perhaps the most meaningful way to honor history is not only to look back at the past with pride, but also to live well in the present and take responsibility for the future.
September 2nd, therefore, is not only a day of history.
It is also a day of gratitude.
A day of pride.
A day when millions of Vietnamese hearts turn toward the Motherland.
