🌱 TOURISM LINKED WITH OCOP PRODUCTS: WOMEN4MANGROVE'S VISION FROM DAY ONE 🌱

On 18th August, in Ha Noi, the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism held a scientific conference on the Project "Developing tourism linked with the production and consumption of OCOP products, contributing to preserving and promoting cultural values and indigenous knowledge in rural Vietnam." The Project aims to unleash new resources, promote the development of OCOP products through tourism, and create momentum for the development of traditional crafts and rural economy. This is a major step forward, affirming the trend of sustainable tourism that brings dual benefits to local communities.

At Women4Mangrove, we are incredibly proud that this strategic direction has been our guiding principle since our very first days. We believe that the development of mangrove ecotourism must go hand in hand with promoting the production and consumption of local OCOP products and enhancing the capacity of women in livelihood development and conservation. This connection not only provides tourists with authentic cultural experiences but also creates sustainable livelihoods, empowering women, and preserving the green of our mangrove forests.

Join Women4Mangrove as we continue our journey to spread green values and bring local indigenous products to the world! 🌿✨

FIELD VISIT AND LEARNING FROM THE MANGROVE CANOPY: WOMEN4MANGROVE AND UNIVERSITY OF ZURICH, SWITZERLAND🌿✨

On August 13-14, 2026, Women4Mangrove had the honor of welcoming Dr. Leon Hauser from the Geography Department, University of Zurich (Switzerland) for a field visit to the mangrove ecosystem, nursery, and community center of Women4Mangrove, as well as to learn about the lives of local people and the unique Khmer culture in Cu Lao Dung, Can Tho City.

At the site, Dr. Leon Hauser, along with members of Women4Mangrove and representatives of the Cu Lao Ecological Agriculture and Community Tourism Cooperative, took a boat trip to landslide areas in An Thanh commune and Cu Lao Dung, visiting mangrove forests and the ecosystem under the canopy. In addition, the field team also visited local community livelihood models, learned about their adaptation to climate change, and exchanged views with local officials to gain a better understanding of forest conservation and urban development in Cu Lao Dung.

Having lived and researched in Vietnam for many years, Dr. Leon Hauser's work and research have focused on mangrove forests. According to Dr. Leon Hauser, at low tide, he could clearly see the root systems of mangrove trees, nipa palms, and nipa palms, many of which were 30 to 40 years old, with dense canopies spreading in many directions; the amount of organisms at the bottom of the river and in the mud was astonishing, teeming with crabs and fish. Compared to other places Dr. Leon Hauser had visited in Vietnam, he had never seen mangrove trees and ecosystems as large and unique as those at Cu Lao Dung.🌿

Women4Mangrove was delighted to have had the opportunity to accompany Dr. Leon Hauser on his recent field trip. Hopefully, this will be the foundation for collaborative activities to organize the International Conference on Mangrove Horizons on October 20-23, 2026, between Women4Mangrove, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH), and the University of Zurich, Switzerland. 🌱

🌟 WOMEN4MANGROVE SHINES AT THE RTD 2026 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE: A HIGHLIGHT FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN THE MEKONG DELTA 🌟

On July 17, 2026, at the "Resilience by Technology and Design 2026: Futurescape" (RTD 2026) International Conference held at UEH - Vinh Long Campus, the Women4Mangrove project was incredibly proud to be a focal point in the keynote presentation by Dr. Long Phi Hoang. Under the theme "Regional collaborations for a prosperous and sustainable Mekong Delta," our story and efforts in Cu Lao Dung were shared with the international academic community as a prime model for green growth.

Specifically, Women4Mangrove's message of "Living with Nature" and ecosystem protection was highlighted through deeply meaningful milestones:

👩‍🌾 Women-led & spreading community values: The project established a Mangrove Nursery and Training Center managed by the Cu Lao Ecological Agriculture and Community Tourism Cooperative (formerly the Cu Lao Dung Women Entrepreneurs Club) to join hands in restoring mangrove apple trees (Sonneratia caseolaris) in Cu Lao Dung.

💼 Innovating sustainable livelihoods: Initiated the development of a women-led cooperative, pioneering agricultural eco-tourism, and elevating mangrove-based products to achieve OCOP standards.

🌍 Pioneering the Blue Carbon market: Proudly opened up a new direction by collaborating with international organizations and local units to conduct pre-feasibility studies and map forest restoration, aiming to access non-traditional financial sources for large-scale environmental protection.

Alongside Women4Mangrove, the overall picture of efforts to build climate resilience in the Mekong Delta is further propelled by preceding and concurrent research projects. These include the GS4Infra project, which integrates gender-sensitive infrastructure and irrigation planning in Soc Trang; and the AFAS Project, which deploys the ClimaFarm app to support smallholder farmers with weather alerts and agricultural advisory services to adapt to climate change.

Empowered by the SEA Grants fund, W4M believes that the inner strength of Mekong Delta women, when combined with technological solutions and diversified business models, will bring about practical changes for the ecosystem and the community. 💚🌳

🌱 CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2026: WHEN YOUTH HARMONIZES WITH NATURE 🌱

On this International Youth Day, August 12, 2026, the Women4Mangrove project is deeply honored and grateful to share a meaningful milestone. Our Project Assistant, Dao Thanh Tam, was proudly featured by the SCS SAP project alongside 6 other outstanding youth representatives in the region. Sharing a common vision, these young individuals are striving every day towards a noble mission: to protect their local coasts, empower their communities, and help build sustainable livelihoods.

For Women4Mangrove, this is not just a personal joy for Tam, but also an invaluable recognition of the quiet efforts made by our entire team on the journey to restore and protect mangrove forests in the Mekong Delta. We always believe that all positive changes stem from the strength of the community and the joint contributions of many generations, especially the youth.

We would like to express our deepest and most sincere gratitude to SCS SAP for providing this opportunity, listening to, and amplifying the voices of young people. This support and encouragement serve as a tremendous motivation for the Women4Mangrove team to continue stepping firmly on our path.

On this day dedicated to young people, we want to send a little message to the youth who are working tirelessly on community and environmental projects: A journey of a thousand miles always begins with the most humble steps. No matter who you are or where you are, your dedication and perseverance have the power to create profound impacts. Step up, take action, and use your youthful energy to sow more green seeds of hope for the future.

May youthful hearts always keep the fire of passion and the desire to contribute burning bright. 🌊🌿

🚨 SEVERE LANDSLIDE IN CU LAO DUNG: A WAKE-UP CALL ON THE IMPACTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE 🚨

Recently, a severe landslide occurred in the Nguyen Tang hamlet area, Cu Lao Dung district, directly affecting livelihoods and threatening the safety of local residents.

On behalf of Women4Mangrove, we would like to send our deepest sympathies to the households facing the damages caused by this natural disaster. This unfortunate event is once again a clear testament to the harsh reality of climate change, as well as the fragility of coastal and riverine lands against the power of nature.

Landslides do not merely wash away land; they also sweep away the hard-earned fruits of so many people's labor. Now more than ever, we need to take a serious look at long-term solutions for coastal and riverbank protection. To respond effectively, there must be a tight integration of two protective layers:

- Inner circle: Grey Infrastructure: The construction of solid concrete d***s and embankments is an urgent technical solution. This is the direct frontline defense that provides immediate safety for residential areas, safeguarding crops and properties against unpredictable weather patterns.

- Outer circle - The long-term "Green Shield": No matter how solid, the layer of grey infrastructure will struggle to withstand nature forever without exterior shielding. In the long run, protecting and developing mangroves is the top priority. The mangrove ecosystem is the most robust natural shield, helping to retain soil, prevent erosion, break waves, block winds, and mitigate the destructive force of storms and high tides. The presence of mangroves creates a safe buffer zone, alleviating the pressure of direct wave impact on the inner d***s.

At Women4Mangrove, we stand firm in our belief that a sustainable solution must stem from a harmonious combination of engineering techniques and the resilience of nature, in which mangrove restoration is the core value for maintaining long-term livelihoods.

Join Women4Mangrove in spreading this message and taking action together for a sustainable mangrove ecosystem, protecting our livelihoods and our very future! 🌱💚

🌿 ROAD TO NET ZERO: KHI THẾ HỆ TRẺ CÙNG WOMEN4MANGROVE GIỮ LẤY MÀU XANH CÙ LAO DUNG 🌿

🌿 ROAD TO NET ZERO: WHEN THE YOUTH AND WOMEN4MANGROVE PROTECT THE GREEN CU LAO DUNG 🌿

Recently, on June 21, 2026, Women4Mangrove was incredibly proud to see our initiated "Educational Tourism Model for Forest Conservation" officially take flight through a field trip named "Road To Net Zero – Cu Lao Dung". This program was organized by HaiAu Educursions for students from ETEST Vietnam.

This journey was not just a simple field trip. It stands as a testament to the core mission that Women4Mangrove continuously pursues: Integrating mangrove conservation with livelihood enhancement for women and marginalized groups, alongside the development of sustainable community-based tourism. Stepping away from familiar classrooms, the young people truly "touched" nature and the rhythm of local life at the end of the Mekong River through a series of meaningful activities:

🛶 Exploring the ecosystem: Experiencing a boat ride weaving through the vast mangrove canopy, hand-harvesting water coconuts and ripe mangrove apples (trái bần) – the generous gifts of nature.

🥟 Connecting with local culture: Learning how to wrap the traditional Num Co cake of the Khmer people, thereby gaining a deeper understanding and appreciation for the cultural beauty tied to the local community.

🌱 Taking environmental action: Gathering to listen to the untold stories from Women4Mangrove's community projects. Best of all, the students themselves waded into the mud to plant young mangrove saplings. Every seedling planted represents a hope to retain the soil, prevent erosion, and restore the coastal greenery.

🎬 Spreading the youth's voice: Through the special "FROM MAP TO MOVIE" challenge, the teams excellently applied the "Net Zero Adventure Map" to decode keywords, collect materials, and produce their own videos entirely in English. Through their lenses, the students powerfully conveyed a message about the younger generation's responsibility toward a sustainable future.

Through this field trip, Women4Mangrove believes that the seeds of love for nature have truly sprouted. The experience of understanding how humans can live in harmony with Mother Earth today serves as a solid foundation for the students to continue pursuing a green lifestyle and contributing to the Net Zero goal.

Women4Mangrove would like to express our deepest gratitude to HaiAu Educursions and the students for joining us in creating such a fulfilling and inspiring journey! 💚
