Lựa chọn cây màu để canh tác trong mùa khô ở vùng đất bị nhiễm mặn và thiếu nước tưới như ở Sóc Trăng là vấn đề cần thiết để đa dạng hóa cây trồng và mang lại nhiều nguồn thu nhập hơn cho nông dân. Để việc trồng cây màu có hiệu quả trong mùa khô cần phải kết hợp lựa chọn cây trồng phù hợp và biện pháp quản lý ẩm độ đất trong điều kiện thực tế. Dự án FOCUS bắt đầu triển khai thử nghiệm việc lựa chọn cây trồng và biện pháp quản lý đất nước ở hai địa điểm Liêu Tú và Long Phú, Sóc Trăng.

Selecting suitable crops to cultivate in the dry season in areas with saline intrusion and lack of irrigation water such as Soc Trang is a necessary work to diversify crops and bring more sources of income for farmers. For crop cultivation to be effective in the dry season, it is necessary to combine the selection of appropriate crops and soil moisture management in practical conditions. The FOCUS project started to pilot the selection of crops and soil management in two locations, Lieu Tu and Long Phu, Soc Trang.

Trong giai đoạn mùa khô diễn ra, hệ thống kênh rạch ở Sóc Trăng thường thiếu nước ngọt cho sản xuất nông nghiệp. Chính vì vậy, nông dân thường phải bỏ trống đất trồng lúa trong giai đoạn này và chịu hoàn cảnh sinh sống khó khăn thiếu nguồn thu nhập trong khoảng thời gian kéo dài từ 3-6 tháng mùa khô.

During the dry season, the canal system in Soc Trang often lacks fresh water for agricultural production. Therefore, farmers often have to leave rice fields fallow during this period and suffer from difficult living conditions and lack of household income for a period of 3-6 months.
