Task 2: The best way for governments to solve the problem of traffic congestion is to provide free public transport in 24 hours per day, and seven days a week. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Traffic congestion is still to suffer many nations at the moment. There is a policy that government supplies free public transport all the time to solve this problem. In my opinion, I strongly degree with this police. Following, I will give some ideas to make clear my attitude.
First of all, it is obvious that when the government implements this policy, there are many benefits people who engage traffic. People choose the best optimum way and means of transportation to work and regardless the price. That means they can save time and improve the performance. However, it is hard to deny that no sooner does the government implement this policy than national budget can be suffered negatively to reduce.
Government has to pour a huge amount of money into this sector; this can impact on other sectors in the national economy, like education, health and defense. Moreover, there are no evidences to prove that the number of people engaging to travel during rush hours can reduce. It is true that the users are still to use their vehicles in that time because their plans. For example, workers go to their offices or companies around 7 am and come home at 6 pm. Students have to go to school before 6 am and finish the last class at 5 pm
Secondly, this policy can promote people using public transport instead of private one. Because of paying no fee, there are many people who will choose public services to travel, like bus, taxi, the subway and electrical car. Consequently, the rate of private vehicles involved transport will reduce. And, the number of people using public transport will increase dramatically. Consequently, the public transport will tend to overload.
To resolve this problem, a large amount of public vehicles will supply to serve a huge demand of passengers. Because of big shape, these vehicles are to become culprits of traffic congestion. Moreover, the quality of public services will reduce because of so many people using. And, this situation can increase many social problems, like robbery, pickpockets, pushing in the crowded stations, which can effect on people adversely.
In conclusion, this policy brings some advantages for people. But it cannot radically resolve the problems of traffic jams.
