Too often does Amalian excellence exist quietly especially after our students have matriculated and now soar at other institutions where they continue To Excel Always. This is especially when news of their excellence comes in the summer after they have graduated. College Board provides three distinctions; AP Scholar, AP Scholar with Honor, and AP Scholar with Distinction for students who (Scholar) receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams, (with Honor) receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams, and (with distinction) receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams respectively.
What some miss is that over the last 5 years CAHS has only been able to offer 6 AP Exams (English Language and Composition / English Literature and Composition / AP US History / AP Biology / AP Chemistry (which returned in 2023-2024 are a hiatus from 2021) / AP Music Theory). AP Pre-Calculus was added to our offerings this year bringing the total to 7 possible Advance Placement Courses (of CollegeBoardβs soon to be 40 offerings). AP courses last an entire school year (2-Semesters), and are completed, in addition to the 19 required credits needed to graduate as specified by the Virgin Islands Board of Education. AP courses can also be offered at the same period leading to a student having to make a choice. Students in CTE, Vocational, National Academy Foundation, or Business Tracks with On-the-Job components are also seeking to balance those courses with AP courses. And this year, students taking courses at UVI, whether Dual or Early, also kept their AP courses showing a drive for excellence.
All of our students who challenge themselves with taking 3 or more AP courses are acknowledged on their Honors Night as AP Scholars by CAHS, but the official distinction comes from College Board after the results of the tests arrive in the summer. We acknowledged Alumnae Jadynn, Siara, and Abigail as having earned that distinction earlier this year, but all students who rise to the challenge of taking even a single AP course show that they are called to excellence.
We now honor 3 Alumni of the Boundlessly UnIQue Class of 2026 who join the aforementioned scholars as Collegeboard recognized AP Scholars. May we elevate and honor: Sarai, Felisha, and Kyan, you embody that Excellence is Eternal.
Ut Excellere Aeterno.
