Elizabeth Robb Music Studio

General and instrumental music instruction for piano, recorder, voice, oboe, saxophone and percussion. Lessons are available to all ages and skill levels. Ms.

Elizabeth Robb holds a Bachelors of Music degree from San Francisco State University, with a concentration in African Music at the University of California at Berkeley with Master Drummer C.K .Ladzekpo of Ghana. Robb’s formal music studies began on piano at the age of six, she continued on Oboe from seventh grade and continued on saxophone, piano, percussion and voice throughout college. Qualified

in all areas of music studies, her focus has been on Ethnomusicology, writing a Master’s level thesis on African Polyrhythm. Additional studies were conducted in Jazz at Berkelee School of Music in Boston, music and video recording technologies at Bolyston street Studios, and Channel 25 in San Francisco, and Video-editing: Channel 20, Washington, D.C. Before moving to St. Croix, she worked for several years with the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. as a Program Coordinator and Video Editor for six major festivals, including the 1990 Smithsonian Folklife Festival featuring the U.S. Virgin Islands. She was hired as General Coordinator for the restaging of the festival in St. Croix in 1991. Robb began teaching in 1985 at the San Francisco Boys and Girls Club, where she developed an African Dance Program and Directed the Summer Camp. She has taught music and dance for elementary through graduate levels, and has also been a performer and director of numerous performance ensembles. She continues to pursue her music education, having completed graduate work in Orff Music Studies at George Mason University and Choral Directing at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey. She has been a classroom Music Teacher and Chorus Director for over 25 years beginning in SF in 1986, at St. Croix Country Day School and most recently at Alexander Henderson Elementary School. She has nearly 40 private students in voice, saxophone, piano and drums. Her private students have amazed audiences for many years and continue to inspire those who attend their Holiday and Spring Recitals at Whim Great House, Beachside Café at Sandcastles and at Buccaneer Hotel, and most currently at Caribbean Museum Center fir the Arts in Frederiksted. She has also been the director of multiple performance groups including Asche Akoma, the women’s African drum ensemble, and currently The African Drum Ensemble provides a unique environment to understand the basics of poly-rhythm. Traditional drumming techniques and rhythms from Ghana form the platform for our rhythmic explorations. Djembe drums, bells, and chekeres are used to create our uplifting sounds. She also directed the Ay Ay Baroque Recorder Trio, performing Celtic and Baroque recorder music with Celtic drums. She has performed solo on piano as well. Her performance groups are available for performance.
