Student Engagement & Mini Retreat | UVI School of Business
The UVI School of Business recently hosted its Mini Retreat and Student Engagement Session, a hybrid event held across the AAS and OEK campuses, which was dedicated to strengthening its commitment to student and faculty growth, connection, and success.
The Mini Retreat is an intensive, student-centered forum for faculty, intentionally designed to promote collaborative engagement around the continuous improvement of academic programs, the advancement of research and AI implementation, professional growth, reflective dialogue, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the pursuit of expanded grant and funding opportunities.
The Student Engagement Session created an inclusive environment for students from all majors, faculty, and industry partners to connect, network, and participate in purposeful discussions centered on career readiness and personal development. Through dynamic presentations, students gained practical, real-world perspectives that underscored the value of professional growth and highlighted the opportunities available to them. Students were also invited to share thoughtful feedback about the session, which was positively received by the School of Business faculty.
A special thank you to our presenters for their valuable contributions in making this year’s initiative a success:
Presenters: Christelle Daceus - UVI Information Technology Services, Tim and Diana - DM Hospitality, Scott Martin - Caribbean Packaging, and Dr. LaRico Treadwell and Dr. Catherine Armwood - E4 Powers.
✨ Thank you to all who participated in and contributed to the success of both initiatives. Together, these efforts continue to strengthen and enrich the School of Business community.

UVI School of Business participated in the Disaster & Resilient City Expo 2026!
Professor Dr. Deanna McMillan represented the University of the Virgin Islands at the Disasters Expo USA and Resilient City Expo, held on March 4–5, 2026, in Miami, Florida.
This event brought together over 300 vendors and leading organizations, some including FEMA, the American Red Cross, and the U.S. military. The EXPO provided valuable insight into innovative strategies for disaster preparedness, response, and resilient infrastructure development.
This experience is especially impactful for the U.S. Virgin Islands, as the knowledge gained directly aligns with the Territory’s coastal conditions, disaster risks, and recovery needs. It also opened doors for UVI to expand applied research and strengthen industry partnerships in areas such as rapid post-disaster construction and community-focused resilience planning. 💙👏
Opportunities like these continue to enhance teaching, research, and real-world impact while helping to build stronger, more resilient communities across the Virgin Islands.
