PUBLIC NOTICE: Schools Open Today
Lockhart K-8 and Charlotte Amalie High School.

The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE), St. Thomas-St. John District, informs parents, guardians, students, faculty, and staff that Lockhart K-8 School and Charlotte Amalie High School will be open today, Thursday, September 3, 2026, and will operate on their regular schedules.

Following yesterday’s closure due to a major water pipe break that impacted both campuses, the necessary restoration has been completed to allow normal school operations to resume.

All students, faculty, and staff should report to their respective campuses at their regularly scheduled times. Parents and guardians are encouraged to continue monitoring official VIDE communication platforms for any important updates regarding any future school operations.

REVISED - PUBLIC NOTICE: Lockhart K - 8 School and Charlotte Amalie High School to Dismiss Early Due to Major Water Pipe Break

The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE), St. Thomas-St. John District, informs parents, guardians, students, faculty, and staff that there will be an early dismissal at 10:45 am today, Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Lockhart K-8 School and Charlotte Amalie High School due to a major water pipe break affecting both campuses.

District Leadership was informed of the pipe break and its impact on water service at both schools. As a result, the campuses will be closed for the remainder of the day. Breakfast was served, and lunch will be provided to students at both schools prior to dismissal.

VIDE is currently awaiting further updates from the Water and Power Authority (WAPA) regarding the status of repairs and restoration of water service. Additional information will be shared with the school communities as soon as updates become available.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to continue monitoring official VIDE communication platforms for the latest information regarding school operations.

The Virgin Islands Department of Education appreciates the patience, understanding, and cooperation of the Lockhart K-8 School and Charlotte Amalie High School communities as this matter is addressed.

The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE), through the Division of Curriculum & Instruction, is pleased to announce the launch of the Island STEAM Explorers: Science, Life & Leadership Academy, an innovative Saturday enrichment program for students in Grades 7–9 in the St. Thomas–St. John District.

The academy will provide students with engaging, hands-on learning experiences that connect science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) to the unique environment, economy, and cultural resources of the Virgin Islands.

Through field experiences, leadership development, career exploration, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and mentorship, students will discover how classroom learning connects to real-world challenges and future opportunities.

The academy is designed to inspire students to see themselves as scientists, innovators, entrepreneurs, leaders, and future professionals who can make a difference in their communities and beyond.

Space is limited, and families are encouraged to register early!

PUBLIC NOTICE:
Alfredo Andrews Elementary School to Dismiss Early Today - Friday, August 21, 2026.

The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) informs parents and guardians that Alfredo Andrews Elementary School on St. Croix will dismiss students early at 12:00 p.m. today, Friday, August 21, 2026, due to ongoing repairs to a broken water pipe located outside the school campus. All students were served breakfast this morning and will be served lunch prior to dismissal.

Water and Power Authority (WAPA) crews are actively working to complete the necessary repairs; however, the work is taking longer than initially anticipated due to the location of the damaged pipe and the extensive digging required to access it. While school officials made every effort to continue normal operations during the repair process, ongoing water service challenges have made early dismissal necessary.

Parents and guardians are asked to make the necessary arrangements for their children to be picked up or transported home at 12:00 p.m.

VIDE appreciates the patience, understanding, and cooperation of Alfredo Andrews Elementary School families as these WAPA repairs are completed. The health, safety, and well-being of our students and employees remain our highest priority.
