When I embarked on my Ph.D. journey, I was looking for a program offered at a “Historically Black College or University” (HBCU), which would require minimal travel away from home, was going to be a three-year journey, and was affordable. The Creative Leadership for Innovation and Change (CLIC) Ph.D. program was the perfect choice for me.

As an educator, reading coach, educational consultant, and business owner, I want to help advance the world’s knowledge about literacy leadership and make a difference in the lives of students, teachers, administrators, district leaders, parents, and others. In addition, I want to make an impact on the world through the work that I do.

Earning my doctorate meant having expert-level knowledge in my chosen field, literacy leadership. I got my Ph.D. because I am passionate about literacy and was ready to expand my understanding of that topic exponentially through research. The process required great effort and dedication. The coursework was rigorous and included countless hours of research. But what I plan to do with all that research made it worthwhile.
As a result of the research work that I completed, I am now venturing out on a project which can significantly impact closing the literacy gap in the U.S. Virgin Islands’ public schools.
