Today's ELA lesson focused on context clues. As students read the passage entitled "Puerto Rico's National Drink: Pina Colada.", they used their skills to figure out the meaning of unknown words by looking at words around them. They also made their own virgin Piña Colada shortly after!

Week 4: Culture
Today’s objective was to provide a practical and engaging way for learners to continue developing their understanding of measurement and reading comprehension concepts by applying them in the context of making a native treat, "Johnny Cakes." By participating, learners gained firsthand experience in measuring ingredients accurately, working with various units of measurement, and using mathematical and reading comprehension skills in a real-world scenario.

In today's lesson, students personalized their candles at Serenity Glow Candle Co.. Students learned about the science of melting and cooling wax, how fragrances and colors affect the final product, and the importance of safety precautions in handling hot wax. Simultaneously, they expressed their creativity by choosing colors and scents.

As week three, entitled Arts, Colors, and Kaleidoscope, ends, we incorporated an outdoor adventure to the St. Thomas Historical Trust Museum on Main Street. Students learned the history and culture of the Virgin Islands and how it's protected and preserved. Students are wearing their very own personalized tie-dye shirts they created.
Lastly, they indulged in fracos from Rudy's Fraco truck to cool them down on this hot summer day!

Today's ELA lesson focused on the main idea with supporting details. The topic was Ice Cream. Students read a passage entitled "Making Ice Cream." They were also surprised with ice cream from Happy Scoops LLC. Ice Cream truck shortly after!

Week 3: Art, Color, and Kaleidescope
In today's lesson, students explored and discussed the history and context around the Juneteenth holiday in the United States by reading and comprehending a passage. Lastly, students painted a canvas that depicts them as young black boys and girls.

As week two, entitled STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math), ends, we incorporated an outdoor adventure to the Virgin Islands Port Authority Fire Station.
Students learned about the various tools and equipment used, safety information, and understanding of what the firefighters do throughout their shifts, and they had the opportunity to climb into the firetrucks and play with the gadgets.
