I whispered ‘Dean’s List’… but she spoke ‘President’s List’ over my life—and everything changed.

When I decided to go back to college to get my Associates Degree in Education, I was in my 40's, and secretly inside I wanted to graduate with a star by my name. At times at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College I would see students coming to college wearing black and white and I knew that meant they we being highlighted for being on the Dean's List or President's List and to be honest I wanted to be one of them.

One day I said to one of the young ladies who I became very close to that I wanted to be on the Dean's List and she looked at me and said, "Dean's List Mother Joyce, President's List!" I can't exactly tell you what happened but her words ignited a level of confidence in me that was not there before. From that time on I began to see the possibility of me not only being on the Dean's List but also on the President's List. And guess what, I made it on both lists several times!!! Because of God and her confidence in me, not only did I make those lists, but I also graduated cm laude!!!

I've told my story several times but today I want you to meet this amazing young lady. Candia McFarlane Travels, the person God used to have the confidence in me that I didn't think I had in myself. When she spoke those words, she did not see me as a 40 plus year old, mother of 3 who had not been in college for years, but she saw someone who could obtain her dreams even if those dreams seemed so big that she was afraid of saying them out loud.

I want to thank you Candia so much because God used you to stand with me, to believe in me. We have remained good friends over these many years and to this day you are still that person who allows me to have success.

To everyone reading this post, in life, no matter what you are embarking on, whatever those dreams, goals or desires are, surround yourself with persons who will cause you to have success. So, go ahead and accomplish those dreams! Yes you can.

In 2025, I made a promise to myself.

As Principal of Hope Academy Technical School, I committed to going live every single week on Facebook and Instagram. I researched my topics. I invested in my very first filming equipment. I prepared.

And did I go live weekly?

No.

If I’m being honest… I kept second-guessing myself.
I kept telling myself I needed to be more prepared.
I kept waiting for everything to be perfect.

And just like that, 2025 ended. 😒
Now we’re already in the second month of 2026!!!!!

That realization hit me hard:
If I don’t move now, I could be writing this same post in 2027.

So I’ve decided to lead by example.

🗓 **Sunday, February 22, 2026** — I begin my weekly live sessions.

No more waiting.
No more overthinking.
No more perfection paralysis.

And maybe you’re in the same place. You have goals. You see the vision clearly. You see yourself graduating, learning that new skill, taking that interesting class. But fear, timing, and lack of confidence keep whispering, “Not yet.”

What if “not yet” is the only thing standing between you and your breakthrough?

I’m taking my first step.
Walk with me.

Now I need accountability — and I know you won’t let me hide.
