“Children need peace, but meanwhile, parties to conflict have an obligation to respect the rules of war – rules that prohibit the unlawful targeting of civilians, attacks on schools or hospitals, the use, recruitment and unlawful detention of children, and the denial of humanitarian assistance. When conflicts break out, these rules need to be respected and those who break them need to be held to account.”- UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta H. Fore
Today, June 4th, we commemorate the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression. A day to reaffirm the UN’s commitment to protect those vulnerable members of societies who are the most affected during armed conflicts. Its work is guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the most widely ratified international human rights treaty in history.

May 23th International Day to End Obstetric Fistula (A/RES/67/147).
Obstetric fistula is one of the most serious and tragic injuries that can occur during childbirth. It is a hole between the birth canal and the bladder or re**um caused by prolonged, obstructed labour without treatment.
The condition typically leaves women incontinent, and as a result they are often shunned by their communities. Sufferers often endure depression, social isolation and deepening poverty. Many women live with the condition for years – or even decades – because they cannot afford to obtain treatment.
