(SVG FESTIVALS)

1. Vincy mas - A Caribbean festival of parades, pageants, dancing, music and street parties. This goes on for over 2 weeks at the end of June/ beginning of July annually and is our well know festival. A cultural experience and a great time with friends and family St. Vincent and the Grenadines

2. Nine mornings- This reflects indigenous culture mixed with Christianity & as the name suggests, it is held over nine mornings, in the run up to Christmas. It is unique to SVG. You feel uplifted St. Vincent and the Grenadines

3. Bequia Easter Regatta- A five-day boat race that takes place in Bequia. It attracts many international, professional and amateur sailors who compete in the Caribbean Sea surrounding the island. Sight of skills, different models and make of boats Bequia, St. Vincent

4. Independence day- A day to celebrate the formation of SVG as a sovereign nation in 1979. A public holiday/ day off to the general public St. Vincent and the Grenadines

5. Mustique blues festival- This festival is the brainchild of London blues singer; Dana Gillespie & has been running since 1996. It is held over 2 weeks in January and February in Mustique although it visits the island of Bequia for one night in the midst of the festival. This is a great place to gear some blues and roots music. Satisfying, relaxing music to the ear, body, mind and soul Mustique, St. Vincent

6. National Dance festival- Many performances are held in September to showcase traditional & other dance styles. Shows are put on by schools, community groups & professional dance companies. You can expect to see modern traditional , creative folk & ballroom dance. Experience of diversity in culture St. Vincent and the Grenadines

Calendar of Events

January 1st- New years day, Climax cooler fete: A Cooler fete where you bring along your own drinks in a cooler, having to purchase ice at the party, having a nice time with friends and family, celebrating the new year. New Year’s Eve in St Vincent & the Grenadines is also known as ‘Old Year’s Night’.

January 31st to February 3rd- Bequia Mount Gay music: This is an annual event that takes place in January each year, it brings together international artistes and bands to the Island for spectacular renditions of musical performances.

March 14th- National Heroes day: As part of this celebration, which is also a holiday, a wreath laying ceremony is held at dorsetshire hill.

April 18th to April 22nd- Bequia’s Regatta is rightly famous for its unique blend of local boat racing, yacht racing shore side activities and Bequia hospitality. A fleet of more than 30 traditional local boats from Bequia and her neighboring islands compete out on the sparkling waters around Bequia. It’s a fabulous, colorful weekend, full of fun and camaraderie, skill and tradition with the whole island caught up in regatta fever.

May 21st- Whit Monday: A Christian holiday/ public holiday. It commemorates the descent of the holy ghost upon the disciples of Jesus.

June (dates to be confirmed)- Bequia Carnival: Bequia Carnival normally takes place at the end of June and it is always sure to be a fun packed event with street parties, bands and parades!

July 2nd- Carnival Monday: A spectacular celebration of music, culture and life on the road with T- shirt bands and more

July 3rd- Carnival Tuesday (mardi gras): Enjoy a spectacular celebration of music, color, heritage and life. Join in traditional street parties, watch fantastic calypso and steel pan performances, costume parades and much more. The St. Vincent Carnival is a wonderful time to visit this premier Caribbean destination.

July- Fishermen's day (held on first saturday after vincy mas): A lively and fiercely contested demonstration of the island’s abundant skills at harvesting the waters that surround the island. The biggest catch by weight wins the day, however there are various other categories to compete in too

August 1st- Emancipation day: On August 1st, 1834 was a historic moment, because it brought a formal end to perhaps the most inhuman institution in the history of humanity – chattel slavery and indentured servitude.

October 27th-Independence day: Annually, on this date, a march or rally is held in the streets of Kingstown to celebrate St. Vincent’s years of independence.

December (Christmas & New year)- National nine mornings festivals: This is a unique Vincentian tradition celebrated annually during the nine mornings of Christmas. Vincentians awake in the early hours (4am) and take part in activities including concerts, dances, bicycle riding and sea baths. The only thing that is missing from Christmas on Bequia is the snow! The Christmas spirit is the same on the island as anywhere else in the world – good will, season’s greetings and Christmas cheer are found in abundance
