The Assessment of the Higher Education Institution preparedness for future challenges is the first work package of the TRIGGER project. The creation of the Methodology for the Analyses of HEI preparedness for future challenges started the work on WP1. In the first part the HEInnovative, the European Commission initiative, which is a self-assessment tool for HEIs that wish to explore their innovative potential in eight areas, was used. After the completion of the self-assessment, each Central Asia partner started preparing the Report on HEI preparedness for future challenges in CA countries, which should be ready in mid-July 2021. This Report will serve as a basic tool for further work on TRIGGER project outputs preparation. Due to the current global situation regarding the Covid-19, partners decided to postpone the Training on implementation of HEInnovate that should be held in Nice, France in September 2021.
The first and second online meetings within WP1 were held on 16th March 2021 and 11th May 2021.

Successful Start of the Work Package on “Enhancing Entrepreneurship Education and Skills Development” (WP2)

The University of Applied Sciences BFI Vienna (Austria) leads the Work Package 2 on “Enhancing Entrepreneurship Education and Skills Development” (WP2) as part of the newly launched Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education Project TRIGGER.

In a nutshell, the WP2 focuses on two main areas:
• The assessment of the current status of entrepreneurship education at the partner Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Central Asia;
• and the planning and implementation of an updated entrepreneurship education scheme at the Central Asian HEIs.

The work on WP2 was started successfully and well in time in cooperation with all project partners. To facilitate the implementation, the following online workshops were already held by Dietmar Paier and Johannes Wetzinger of the University of Applied Sciences BFI Vienna:
• WP2 Workshop “In-depth survey: Skills gaps and skills mismatch”, 11 March and 15 March 2021
• WP2 Follow-up Workshop “Employer/alumni survey implementation, data analysis and report preparation”, 17 May and 19 May 2021

Moreover, linked to these events, a survey on the required entrepreneurial skills and competences of university graduates was conducted among labour market representatives in Central Asia in spring 2021. The analysis of the survey data is currently on-going, and the next WP2 follow-up workshop is scheduled in September 2021.

The project “Triggering innovative approaches and entrepreneurial skills for students through creating conditions for graduate’s employability in Central Asia” (TRIGGER, 2021-2024) is coordinated by the Technical University of Košice and brings together 16 institutions from the European Union and Central Asian states (Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan).

The project "Promoting innovative approaches and developing entrepreneurial skills among university students by creating favourable conditions for graduate employability in Central Asia (TRIGGER)" aims to support higher education in three Central Asian countries, namely Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Although these countries have undergone major positive socio-economic changes in recent years, they still face a number of serious challenges.

A total of 125 projects were submitted under the European Commission's call for projects (CBHE-Capacity Building of Universities), of which only 15 projects from the Central Asia region received funding, representing a 12% success rate. The project is coordinated by the Technical University of Košice - Faculty of Economics, within the CBHE 2020 call. The project will run from 2021 -2024 and has received EC support of €999,573.

Due to Covid19 restrictions the series of 4 online kick-off meetings of the project was held in January and February 2021. The meetings provided the opportunity for all the project partners to meet and set the base for the following project phase. The Project Officer from EACEA, Brussels and representatives of National ERASMUS + Offices from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan took part as well.

The TRIGGER project successfully started and continues, despite the measures taken due to the Covid19 situation. The consortium is trying to overcome as much as possible the limitations that have occurred. The TRIGGER partnership has adopted specific measures to overcome difficulties and move forward.
