I'm going to describe the 'robin' which is a wild bird that is common in the UK. The robin is a small bird with brown and white feathers and an area of bright red colour on it's face and on the front of its body. The area of red colour makes robins very easy to distinguish from other birds.

Robins are common garden birds. Many houses in the UK have a garden, and you can often see this bird sitting in a tree. They make their nests in trees and go looking for food. You might also see a robin if you go for a walk in the countryside or in a park.

Robins have a special place in British culture. They are considered to be christmas birds, and are often used on Christmas cards. Many people leave food in their gardens for robins and other small birds to eat.

Common questions that students ask about IELTS writing.

1. Is it okay to start with question the essay task 2 or task 1?

Comment: No, when you start your essay with a question it will be more journalistic rather than academic. So you better do not start your introduction by giving questions.

2. In task 2 is it possible to agree completely but still mention the other side?

Comment: Yes, you can, but make sure that you make it clear that you agree.

3. Can I use words soar, rocket, plummet?

Comment: No try not to use, the normally exaggerate. Better words could be well substitute like increase, fall and rise

4. Should I use Million or Millions

Comment: 10 million not 10 millions, 10 millions of people, 10 million of people. When there is no number, we do write millions of e.g. millions of people travel abroad each year.

According to a survey, most Britons believe “green” taxes on 4×4s, plastic bags and other consumer goods have been imposed to raise cash rather than change our behaviour, while two-thirds of Britons think the entire green agenda has been hijacked as a ploy to increase taxes.

The UK is committed to reducing carbon emissions by 60 per cent by 2050, a target that most experts believe will be difficult to reach. The results of the poll by Opinium, a leading research company, indicate that maintaining popular support for green policies may be a difficult act to pull off and attempts in the future to curb car use and publicly fund investment in renewable resources will prove deeply unpopular.

The findings were released as the Prince of Wales yesterday called on Britain’s business leaders to take “essential action” to make their firms more sustainable. Speaking in central London to some of the country’s leading chief executives, Prince Charles said: “What more can I do but urge you, this country’s business leaders, to take the essential action now to make your businesses more sustainable. I’m exhausted with repeating that there really is no time to lose.”
