Tashkent International School (TIS), has a strong reputation within the international school community as a caring, professional and vibrant place to learn and is highly regarded as a warm and international learning community for not only students in preschool to grade 12 but for parents and staff as well. We are an International Baccalaureate World School accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the Council of International Schools and fully commit to the pedagogical philosophy and curricular frameworks of the IB. The TIS faculty is comprised of strong educators who are committed to delivering high quality learning activities and to developing all aspects of a child. TIS is a not-for-profit, independent, co-educational day school governed by a board of directors elected from the parent community. Established in 1994 by the UN and the embassies of the USA, Great Britain, France, Germany, and Korea, TIS serves the needs of a stable population, including children of expatriate and local business people and children from the diplomatic community. The school is part of a broader organization, Tashkent International Health and Education Service (TIHES), which also includes Tashkent International Clinic (TIC), a state-of-the-art medical facility with local and foreign-trained doctors. TIS is approved to provide all three IB programs - the Primary Years Programme for Preschool through Grade 5; the Middle Years Programme for Grades 6 through 10; and the Diploma Programme for Grades 11 and 12. In 2020-2021, more than 400 students are enrolled in Preschool through Grade 12, including 250 secondary students. Instruction at TIS is in English; courses include English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Physical Education, Technology and Fine Arts. English as a second language is available from grades 2 to 9. Russian is offered as a foreign language and at mother-tongue level. Other languages taught include French and Korean. ACTIVITIES
There is a comprehensive after-school activities program that includes IB CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service), Model United Nations, student council, SAT/ACT and college preparation, student newspaper, music training, art, chess club, and sports such as track and field, basketball, soccer, volleyball and badminton. IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME
At TIS, 90 percent of all students in Grades 11 and 12 are enrolled in the IB Diploma Programme, a challenging pre-university program aimed at students ages 16 to 19. The IB Diploma Programme leads to a qualification that is widely recognized by the world’s leading universities. To receive the IB Diploma, students must fulfill the following requirements:
Enroll in three Higher Level courses and three Standard Level courses (or four HL and two SL courses) and achieve a score of at least 24 points. Each course is worth a possible seven points. Points are accumulated based on internal and external assessments completed throughout the two years of study, as well as the final IB examinations;
Successfully complete Theory of Knowledge;
Successfully complete a 4,000-word Extended Essay on a topic of their choice; and
Achieve a balance of Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) over 18 months.
