✈️ Tashkent International Airport
Two dates hold special significance in the history of Tashkent Airport:
May 12, 1924 — The first passenger flight was operated on the Tashkent–Pishpek–Alma-Ata route using a Junkers R-13 aircraft. This date is regarded as the beginning of civil aviation in Uzbekistan.
1932 — Construction of a permanent airport began in Tashkent, marking the start of the development of its airport infrastructure.
1956 — A new two-story passenger terminal, designed by architects I. Merpport and M. Kondakova, was completed. At the time, it was considered one of Tashkent’s most remarkable architectural landmarks.
1957–1958 — Regular Tu-104 jet services were introduced on the Moscow–Tashkent–Moscow route. Radar, communications, and landing control systems were upgraded. In 1958, the airport was granted Class I International Airport status.
1976 — Due to the growing number of passengers, a new, larger terminal building was commissioned. The terminal introduced a two-level passenger flow system: arriving passengers used the first floor, while departing passengers used the second floor. An elevated access road (flyover) was built to allow vehicles direct access to the upper departure level.
January 28, 1992 — Following Uzbekistan’s independence, the national airline Uzbekistan Airways was established. That same year, the airline operated its first international flight from Tashkent to London using an Il-62 aircraft.
