* Today Duart Castle, an impressive and picturesque old stronghold perched on a rock by the sea, long home to the Macleans and near Craignure on the island of Mull in western Scotland.

** El castillo Duart, una antigua fortaleza impresionante y pintoresca encaramada a una roca junto al mar, hogar durante mucho tiempo de los Maclean y cerca de Craignure, en la isla de Mull, al oeste de Escocia.

* An extremely impressive and daunting fortress, Duart Castle consists of a large 13th-century curtain wall, enclosing a courtyard on a rocky knoll. In 1390 Lachlan Lubanach, 5th Chief, built a substantial tower on the outside of the curtain wall enclosing the existing well. There are later ranges of buildings within the walls. The entrance was through a gatehouse with a portcullis.

** El castillo Duart, una fortaleza impresionante y sobrecogedora, consta de una gran muralla del siglo XIII que encierra un patio en una loma rocosa. En 1390, Lachlan Lubanach, quinto lugarteniente, construyó una importante torre en el exterior de la muralla que rodeaba el pozo existente. Posteriormente se construyeron varios edificios intramuros. La entrada se realizaba a través de una puerta con un postigo.

* The tower has very thick walls and the ground floor was vaulted with the main hall on the first floor, which has a great fireplace and round headed windows with stone seats, although a new window has been cut in one wall. The upper floors are reached by a narrow turnpike stair in the thickness of the wall.

** La torre tiene muros muy gruesos y la planta baja estaba abovedada con la sala principal en el primer piso que cuenta con una gran chimenea y ventanas de medio punto con asientos de piedra, aunque se ha abierto una nueva ventana en una pared. A los pisos superiores se accede por una estrecha escalera de caracol tallada en el espesor del muro.
