For just a few minutes, forget about HPA, mediolateral or dorsopalmar balance. Look at a hoof in the most unflattering light. Notice what looks aligned and unobstructed, then look at what looks out of balanced and deviating from the growth pattern. Notice where the hoof capsule loses it’s grid. Then look for the influence of weight bearing from the solar view. Don’t think about trimming. Think about what the solar structures would look like after 20 miles of wear over varied terrain. Then think about 40 miles, 60, 80, 100, 120, 140 miles…that’s only 1 week of what a horse is meant to have. If the horse is severely compromised, they might make it 1 mile per day, then gradually 2 miles, then 3. Nature has the answers and it’s usually simple. It’s just not usually convenient, cheap, or conventional.

Be curious. Don’t be afraid to feel your way through problems. Develop your intuition and question everything. Let other people take it personally that you’re thinking for yourself. Don’t let their discomfort affect your experience.
