Thursday --- The full update will need to come later... our final devotional time together lasted 2.5-3 hours and as it's already 12:31 AM and we're driving home tomorrow, sleep needs to come before the post! Stay tuned... :)

Wednesday!
The morning was typical --- breakfast, classes, recess, etc. but on Wednesdays, school gets out at 11:30. So we packed lunches, hopped in the vehicles, and headed about 30 minutes away to El Morro National Monument to do some hiking. We heard a little history from one of the guides and after huffing & puffing our way to the top (we're blaming the altitude!), we took a break and enjoyed lunch with a view. Last year we took this hike in wind and snow so our 70 degree sunny weather was greatly appreciated! When we reached the bottom we headed over to the Gallup/Rehoboth area for another, significantly more challenging hike called The Crevice. A handful of students conquered their fears of heights, climbing, and falling and everyone made it back in one piece :) When we got back to the school, some of the teachers and their families joined us for a pizza dinner before our usual routine of devotions, worship, and final lesson planning for tomorrow. It's hard to believe there's only one more day of classes!

Tuesday ~ We had another full day of teaching classes (all the same as Monday) and once again, they all went well! Ladybugs were released, hard boiled eggs were sucked into jars with burning paper due to pressure changes (I think), derby cars were painted, Bible lessons were taught, arts & crafts projects were created, catapaults were worked on, and many, many piggyback/shoulder rides were given! After school, many of the students went to the little store nearby for an ice cream treat and took a bit of down time just to hang out. The school had an open house from 5:00-6:30 so while parents toured the rooms and ate a provided dinner, our Valley students served the food and provided childcare on the playground. When the event was over, we had our own dinner and then Kathy (principal) talked to us about the history of Zuni and some of the religious customs. The evening is ending the same as every other night --- devotions, worship, and lesson planning time before tomorrow.

Monday: check!
Everyone was up, ready, and finished with breakfast by about 8:15 as the first classes started at 8:30. The day was FULL with K-8 classes of devotions, science, drama, CSI, insects, arts & crafts, catapults, habitats, derby, nutrition, dance, games, and creative expressions. When Valley students weren't teaching a class, they were either helping their peers or giving endless piggy back rides on the playground (often while playing tag at the same time). Even though some of them may have been a little nervous about how their lesson plans would go, they all went well for the most part. A broken part of the saw put the derby cars a little behind schedule, but they've already worked on altering their plans to make sure they finish everything on time.
When school was over, we helped hand out fliers in the area to advertise an open house on campus tomorrow night. Then we piled into the vans and headed over to Gallup (about a 40 minute drive) for dinner at Cracker Barrel and a supply run at Walmart.
The evening is being spent in group devotions/worship time and prepping for classes tomorrow!

Sunday --- After a mostly restful night's sleep, we all woke up, got ready for church, and had to move all of our stuff out of the "sleeping room" into a classroom across the hall so the 'bedroom' could be set up for the service. After the Palm Sunday service, led by Pastor Mike Meekhof, some of the school staff stuck around and joined us for a Sunday dinner feast. A couple hours of the afternoon were spent hiking through Nutria Canyon before heading back to the school for dinner and devotions. Much of the evening is also being spent finalizing lesson plans, making sample arts & crafts projects, building a catapult, and inflating a giant soccer ball. Teaching starts first thing tomorrow morning!

We're in Zuni! We left Valley around 6:30 this morning, stopped in Barstow for breakfast, Flagstaff for lunch, and arrived at the school just a bit before sunset. Kathy (principal) gave everyone a tour and after setting up our "bedrooms" we had dinner, devotions, showers, and are winding down for the night. It's been a long day but we're thankful we made it safely!
