[08/26/21]   As most of you know, our school system has been hit hard with both Positive Cases of COVID-19 and the requirement that we quarantine students and staff that are identified as a close contact to each positive case. Our district is now at a place where we have a large percentage of students and staff at grades 6-12 who are not able to come to work or school. We are also having those same challenges with our bus drivers and are having difficulty getting all of the routes covered. As a result, our district has made the difficult decision for the Middle School, the Ninth Grade Academy, PCAP, Zebulon High, and Pike County High School to transition to distance learning beginning next Monday. We will reopen for in-person learning on Tuesday, September 7. Pre-K, Primary, and Elementary schools will remain open for in-person learning.

Tomorrow will be a very important day at your child’s school. The teachers will discuss with students how we will be working next week and what the expectations will be for students regarding their assignments. Students should be prepared tomorrow to take everything home with them that they will need to be successful during our distance learning week. Students that are involved in athletics and other after school extra curriculars will receive information from their coaches and directors regarding plans for next week.

We know that the last couple of weeks have been frustrating for our staff, students, and community. Our hope is that next week gives everyone a chance to get healthy and allow quarantines to expire so that we are all ready for a fresh start on September 7. Tomorrow is business as usual. See you in the morning!

2021-2022 COVID-19 Protocols and Procedures - Pike County Schools

August 23, 2021
Dear Parent or Guardian,

Prior to the start of the 2021-2022 school year, Pike County Schools developed a health and safety plan which included COVID-19 protocols and procedures. This plan can be found on the district website at the following address: https://pike.k12.ga.us/covid19/ As noted in the plan, if any school has 2% of the population (students and staff) that have tested positive within a 7-day period, more restrictive measures will be taken to ensure the welfare of staff and students. Unfortunately, Pike County High School now has 2% of the population that have tested positive. We will begin to implement protocols that are very similar to but no more restrictive than what we used last year. These new protocols will begin immediately and are listed below.
• Temperature of staff and students will be checked each morning upon arriving at school.
• Students will be distanced 3 feet apart when possible.
• Breakfast and Lunch will be served in classrooms
• No visitors will be allowed in the building.
• Non-vaccinated students and staff who are considered in close contact to someone who tests positive will be required to quarantine.
• Field Trips will be cancelled for the immediate future, but will be rescheduled if possible.
• Teachers will look for opportunities to reduce the use of shared materials whenever possible.
In addition, masks continue to be encouraged but are not required for students or staff. These procedures will remain in place until we see a significant downward trend in the positivity rate in our school district. Our goal is to return to normal as soon as possible while keeping our staff and students safe and healthy. If you have any questions, please contact our school nurse, Shanna Callaway.

Sincerely,
Kevin Huffstetler
Principal

[08/22/21]   Because Lamar County Schools are closed for the next two weeks, our JROTC students temporarily will not be attending JROTC classes at Lamar. If this pertains to your student, we are offering two options during the time your student would normally attend JROTC.

1. Parents may choose to check out their JROTC student from the high school at 12:30 each day.

2 Or, if your JROTC student remains at the high school after 12:30, they will be supervised in a study hall.

At this time, Lamar County hopes to return to 4-day per week classes after Labor Day. We will update as we learn more.

We know you are anxious to get logged into PowerSchool to check grades. The site will not be up and running until August 30th. At this time we will give all students their PowerSchool login information. If you already have the app on your phone, you may be getting notifications about grades being entered. This is normal, but you will not be able to log into the system until the 30th.
