💦 POOL MYTH MONDAY! 💦
There are a lot of swimming pool myths floating around—and believing them can cost you time, money, and a lot of frustration! Let’s see how many you’ve heard before. 👇
❌ Myth #1: If the water is clear, it’s clean.
✅ Truth: Crystal-clear water can still contain bacteria, cause skin/eye irritation or have little to no sanitizer.
❌ Myth #2: A strong chlorine smell means there’s too much chlorine.
✅ Truth: That smell usually means you need more chlorine! It’s caused by chloramines (used-up chlorine).
❌ Myth #3: Chlorine tablets are all your pool needs.
✅ Truth: Tablets also add stabilizer (CYA), which can build up over time and reduce chlorine’s effectiveness.
❌ Myth #4: Rain adds chlorine to your pool.
✅ Truth: Rain actually dilutes your sanitizer and can increase chlorine demand.
❌ Myth #5: You only need to shock when the pool turns green.
✅ Truth: Routine shocking helps prevent problems before they start.
❌ Myth #6: More chlorine is always better.
✅ Truth: The right chlorine level depends on your pool’s stabilizer (CYA). More isn’t always better!
❌ Myth #7: Saltwater pools don’t use chlorine.
✅ Truth: Salt systems make their own chlorine—they’re still chlorine pools.
❌ Myth #8: My automatic cleaner does all the work.
✅ Truth: Brushing is still essential to remove algae and biofilm from pool surfaces.
❌ Myth #9: Burning eyes mean there’s too much chlorine.
✅ Truth: Poor water balance and chloramines are usually the real culprit.
❌ Myth #10: Phosphates automatically cause algae.
✅ Truth: Algae feeds on phosphates to grow, but it won’t grow if your sanitizer is maintained properly.
❌ Myth #11: Once the algae is gone, you’re done.
✅ Truth: You still need to brush, clean the filter, and maintain proper chlorine levels to keep it from returning.
❌ Myth #12: Pool stores just want to sell chemicals.
✅ Truth: Accurate water testing often saves you money by preventing unnecessary chemical purchases.
At Pike Pools we celebrate with you when you get a perfect report!
❌ Myth #13: You can set your pool and forget it.
✅ Truth: Weekly water testing and regular maintenance prevents costly problems.
❌ Myth #14: Chlorine causes green hair.
✅ Truth: Chlorine doesn't turn blonde hair green; Copper found in certain algaecides and oxidized metals in the water causes the discoloration
❌ Myth #15: Cloudy water just needs clarifier.
✅ Truth: Cloudiness can have many causes—testing the water is the first step.
❌ Myth #16: If my chlorine test is high, algae can’t grow.
✅ Truth: High CYA can make chlorine less effective, allowing algae to survive.
❌ Myth #17: I only need to test my water at the beginning of the season.
✅ Truth: Water chemistry changes constantly. Weekly testing keeps your pool healthy and swim-ready!
