It’s been a busy first to weeks of preschool! Mrs. Spraggins and Mrs. Hayes has been teaching the children the classroom routine, how to be a PAX leader in the hallway and in the classroom. They have a lot of children who are Ready, Respectful, and Responsible throughout the day! The children are learning math concepts of near and far, beside of, under, on top, front and back. They learned to put a daily routine in order. They are learning to match the letters of their name and sorting the letters by straight line letters or curved letrers. They are naming and labeling body parts.
What a great first two weeks of school!

What a wonderful week at Zanesville City Preschool. Mrs Spraggins and Miss Coss students had a busy week talking about the weather, predicting the weather, reading in their Frog-street books “Weather” and writing and learning new words.
A lot of “changes” are coming as the children get ready to transition to kindergarten but right now they are having a great last few weeks with their friends , field day and ending their week also with a Mother’s Day Celebration!
Mrs. Spraggins and Miss Coss would like to thank Ohio Stoneware for donating the vases for their Mother’s Day gifts.

The children in Mrs. Spraggins and Miss Paige’s class participated in “Global Youth Service Day” The children planted some Flowers.
The children also finished their unit about Animals learning about birds. They learned bird names, listened to different bird sounds and made bird feeders.
The children also are learning about “butterflies. They are documenting changes and are so excited and can’t wait to see them come out of their chrysalis. The changing of the butterflies will extend into the next unit as they will learn about “Changes”and transitioning into kindergarten and how they have grown and changed through the year!
They will learn about weather, animals, and flowers and how they change too.
The ABC count down continues next week as the last month of school approaches. They will celebrate their mothers with a tea party for Mother’s Day and end their year with a family picnic for all preschool families.

Mrs. Spraggins, Miss Paige and Mrs. Hayes’ class are “Creeping and Crawling” into their next unit about insects. They are learning that an insects body has three parts and 6 legs. They are learning where insects live and things insects do to help flowers and people.
They are learning to be scientists and explore different insects using science tools.
They went on a hunt for insects outside taking advantage of the warm days and found worms, slugs, beetles and spiders and talked about “Is it an insect or not an insect?” and “Why?”
They are learning to add and subtract small groups less than 8 and writing their numbers.
They built picnic tables this past week and had a picnic in the block space.
Their next learning adventure with insects will be about “Hopping Critters”

Mrs Spraggins and Miss Paige’s class has finished up the unit “Creative Me”
They learned about construction, tools, and how to be creative in art.
They learned words like “Blueprints”, “Demolition”, “Skyscraper” types of construction trucks, and simple machines.
Some target letters they focused on were, “Ee, Qq, Oo, Xx, and Ww.”
They learned to make structures out of different types of blocks and made sculptures using clay and play dough.
They used their view board to trace letters and some children worked on using their letter sounds to spell out word puzzles.
The children also started reading in their Frogstreet story books and are learning how to write a sentence using their space frog to space their words.
The learning continues with their next unit “On th Move”.

Mrs Spraggins’s, Miss Paige, Mrs Hayes’ class had a busy 3 days with a lot of “construction” in the classroom. The children used bricks , cups and paper plates, magnet shapes, and small building blocks to build with. They built garages for their trucks, a car, and skyscrapers.
Vocabulary words introduced, “engineers, construction, demolition, skyscrapers, architect and blueprints.” Target letters were “Cc, Ll, Ww, and Rr.”
They learned about shapes and how they can turn a square to make a rhombus and fill in these shapes with other shapes. Next week the children will learn about the types of tools they can use to build.

Mrs Spraggins And Miss Paige’s class have been learning their letters and letter sounds. They are learning how to measure objects with different tools and learning directional concepts with Frog-e and how to operate him. They decorated cookies with Chef Steve and they did some writing practice on the white board too.
The children are ready for a fun Christmas week with the Polar Express and a Make It, Take It activity day with their parents this week.

Mrs Spraggins and Miss Paige’s class have been working on shapes, 2-D shapes and 3-shapes. They have been working on putting numbers in order and the alphabet in order using floor puzzles and letter and number cards.
In Science they are learning about “living and non-living” and characteristics of living things.
Their stories this week were “Henry and Harry” and “Is It Alive?”
They made their gingerbread men for the preschool Christmas tree and in S.T.E.A.M. this week they made robots. They used different materials, discussed shapes they were using and a lot of problem solving.
Taking cozy naps by the view board fire place with instrumental Christmas music playing was relaxing and learning to work together to finish an activity as been a joy to watch.
Next week they will read different stories and learn how these stories are alike and different along with making fun Christmas decorations in art.

Mrs Spraggins and Miss Paige were busy helping the children with counting on their 10 frame, counting strategies, making ghost, pumpkins, learning parts of a pumpkin, making and counting pumpkins to put in a pumpkin patch, fine motor skills and tracing their letters. They also learned the Rhyme 1,2,3,4,5 Once I Caught a Fish Alive.
Miss Kenzie did a science experiment called “Walking Water” the children learn to make predictions of what colors they would see as the colors mixed as they traveled.
It will be a FUN and busy week next week! Mrs Spraggins and Miss Paige would like to remind parents of spirit week (See dojo classroom stories), the pumpkin patch field trip Thursday and the Halloween Parade Friday.

Mrs Spraggins, Miss Paige and Mrs Hayes class is learning about family pets. The children did some whole group graphing this week graphing the kind of pets they have and what pet would make a good classroom pet. They had a couple of therapy dogs visit J.A.M and Nash these are therapy dogs from Zanesville Middle School and National Road.
The children are learning letters Aa, Bb And Pp this week. They traced the letters and identified them in their morning message and sorted the uppercase B from the lowercase b. They are learning how to hold scissors correctly and cut on straight lines and hold their writing utensil correctly with the help of Mrs Fike. They designed their own fishbowls in art and built houses for different size animals in S.T.E.A.M.
