Arizona Western College is preparing to launch a new chapter of its educational mission, this time inside ASPC-Yuma.

In partnership with the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR), AWC is already laying the groundwork to enroll its newest students in a program built around one goal: creating a real pathway from education to degree to reentry to workforce.

National research consistently shows that people who participate in correctional education programs are significantly less likely to return to prison and more likely to find stable employment after release, outcomes that benefit not just individuals, but families, employers, and entire communities. We're proud to champion this work in our community.

We’re proud to congratulate Jay Chandra, an Arizona Western College concurrent enrollment student, on being named to the Top 300 in the 2026 Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge! 🎉

Jay was selected from nearly 2,000 students nationwide for his research using an AI model he built himself to predict heart efficiency from ECG data, exploring a potentially lower-cost alternative to echocardiograms.

A former student at Gowan Science Academy in Yuma, Jay has been taking college courses at AWC for the past two years while completing middle school.

Big milestone for the Health Careers Center! Exterior signage just went up, and the future home of hands-on healthcare education in Yuma County is taking shape.

Built in partnership with Onvida Health, the center will include simulation labs and hospital-style training spaces. Programs will span certified medical assistant, phlebotomy certification, healthcare administration, informatics, and more, from dual credit through bachelor's degrees.

Construction is on track to finish in early 2027, with students expected to begin using the facility that spring.
