Our school is Licensed by the Oklahoma Board of Private Vocational Schools and consists of a 10 week, hands-on training program driven by the understanding that our success is dependent upon the success of our students. History
Custom Dental Assisting School was established in 2012 by Dr. Nathan Brown. Dr. Brown is the CEO of Custom Dental, a series of 10 dental offices in multiple states, which
began over 30 years ago. He practices general dentistry with emphasis in crown and bridge, removable prosthetics, oral surgery, Endodontics, periodontology, implants and orthodontics. Dr. Brown, as an author, mentor, and dental speaker, felt that after expanding Custom Dental to 10 offices, in just 3 years, growing at 63,000 new patients a year, their system is worth opening up a school and giving opportunities to share the unique education Custom Dental’s Assistants have experienced. Philosophy
Custom Dental Assisting School proudly presents a 10 week dental assisting program providing and focusing on “hands-on” training with a practicing dentist along with classroom and lab education. We are dedicated to providing real life experiences in the dental field to give our students the best possible training on procedures and techniques to jump start their passion and career in dentistry. We are driven by the understanding that our success is dependent upon the success of our students. Mission
Our mission is to equip and prepare students to achieve a professional status as competent dental assistants who have graduated with the skills and credentials required performing and working towards a career and passion to help others through dentistry. Custom Dental Assisting School's course consists of a hands on training program that has been growing within Custom Dental and it is time to share our unique education with the world. To secure your spot in our course you will need to send in the application filled out and your $1,500 down payment. Then most people make payments here and there until the first day of class which is when your first payment is due. The other payments between the down payment and first day of class are optional. To determine your payment amount we will take your tuition total minus payments made divided by 10 (number of weeks of class).
Here are our Payment Plans! Total Tuition: $3997
Option 1: Pay in Full by cash or check before the first day of class and only pay $3697
Option 2: Pay $3997 by Credit Card
Option 3: Pay $1,500 down and $250 will be due every week Before class starts
Option 4: Pay $2,000 down and $200 will be due every week before class starts
There is a modified option not listed on the application that whatever you pay for a down payment (must be $1,500+) and we will divide the balance due by 10 (number of weeks of class) less your down payment.
----Explain all your options for payment plans. There are a couple ways you can do it!
1- You can make payments as you wish and when you reach your $1500 down payment to secure your spot, you then can choose which course and location you want to attend and make payments until the first day of course (whatever amount you want: $200, $50, $25, etc.). When that first day comes then we will see how much you have left on your tuition, and we will come up with your weekly payments due each Friday at the first of class.
2- We have a set of structured payment plans available:

----Do you accept Financial Aid? Like FAFSA, etc…? Unfortunately, we do not qualify for financial aid, since we are a Certificate Program not a Degree Program. -------What kind of Job Placement Assistance do you offer? Throughout our course, we are contacted by our company as well as other dental offices that are hiring or possibly looking to hire and we give you an opportunity to be more than just a resume, you actually get to use your 4hr on the job training shift there to show them your character and ability to learn. This is also why we require an externship...to get yourself in front of other dentists and hygienist and essentially have an up on the competition because they are getting to meet you and your unique and one of a kind self! There is not and will never be another YOU! :)
Once your externships are complete we will:
1- we will write you a letter of recommendation
2- give you access to all the openings that our whole company receives along with other dental offices through our Custom Dental Assisting Assisting Alumni Page
3- we are always available to talk with ANY doctor or hygienist once you have applied or are thinking of applying at a particular dental office
4- We cannot apply for you because :
a) we really are not sure what locations you are interested in
b) we are not sure what branch of dentistry i.e. Pediatrics, orthodontics, endodontics etc. c) if we do a lot of this essentially for you, there will be no value or sense of accomplishment for you. We are here to help you and be your cheerleader! We are here to help each and everyone one of our students and to make a positive impact on the dental community.

------Are you CODA Accredited? We are not CODA Accredited,
We looked into becoming an Accredited and we would have to raise our tuition price to cover new fees and extend our school from 10 WEEKS to at least 10 MONTHS. We decided that wasn't our mission, our mission is to help those who do not have the money or time for a lengthy course and get you prepared for a career in dental assisting by using a hands on approach with on the job training. We are accredited through the Oklahoma Board of Private Vocational Schools (OBPVS) www.obpvs.ok.gov
--------- How much can you expect to make in a year going through this program? ------
It depends on where you get hired at. Most dental offices will start you out anywhere from $12-$16 an hour plus great benefits and dentistry at cost! Also a couple more things to consider...
1- In Dental Assisting, there is a ton a room for growth... In most cases, after 90 days you will get a raise and then again after achieving each one of your expanded duty certifications.
2- Some dental offices work off of a bonus system. So you might be getting paid a less amount hourly but it offsets with receiving anywhere from $100-$1000 bonus in 1 month! Sometimes more! The Bureau of Labor Statistics says that a Dental Assistant makes on average $32,000- $48,000 annually
Also most dental offices only work Monday- Thursday so you can have 3 day weekends!
---Since this is just a certificate program ... does that mean I can't get a job?-----
Basically what the dental board recognizes is:
1- Your DA (Dental Assisting) permit.. As a dental assistant, you must have a permit to do ANYTHING on a patient. You will fill out the paperwork for this on the first day and we will pay for it and send it in.
2- Your dental assisting expanded duties
These expanded duties you achieve is through the Oklahoma Dental Foundation. The 4 are:
3. Radiation- what we will pay for and get you enrolled in
4. Assisting in the administration of Nitrous Oxide- must work Chairside for at least 1 year and have a current CPR certification (you will receive your CPR in our course)
5. Coronal Polishing- must work chairside for at least 1 year
6. Placing sealants in pits and fissures - must have your coronal polishing certificate to apply
So what our school is trying to do is get you certified in as many things that you can legally do in Oklahoma to strengthen your resume to get a job so you can be making money and learning while you are working towards your year to apply for polishing and the other expanded duty certifications.
----Since this program is only 10 weeks log and others are much longer, will I get the same out of this one? Am I less likely to get a job? -----
That is a great question and it does seem pretty crazy for us to offer this. I will try to explain the best that I can.
In Oklahoma, most dentists are hiring more off of the "expanded duties" that a Dental Assistant can achieve in the State of Oklahoma than a degree in which there really isn't a degree in Dental Assisting, only your CDA and some other tests you can take online or sometimes in facilities, however most of them you have to have prerequisites that are very similar to these 4 expanded duties that the Oklahoma Dental Board supports...
The most valuable is your Coronal Polishing. Then once you pass... they are sent to the Oklahoma Dental Board who issued your expanded duty certifications that all dentists ask for. Placing sealants in pits and fissures - must have your coronal polishing certificate to apply
So what our school is trying to do is get you certified in as many things that you can legally do in Oklahoma to strengthen your resume to get a job so you can be making money and learning while you are working towards your year to apply for polishing.
------ what exactly is your job placement? ------
We offer job placement assistance; a 4 hour on the job training weekly. You have the opportunity to train as well as work under many dentist, dental assistants, and hygienists that often work at other dental offices too, thus giving you an edge in the job finding process as they will remember someone who works hard, has a good character, and loves their patients. Believe it or not... there are many assistants that are very lazy and don't work hard. So by those seeing your work ethic and character, you are looked at way before those who have put in resumes.
Also upon graduation, you will be added to our Custom Dental Assisting School Alumni page which is a closed group for our graduates only that are constantly posting job opportunities. Lastly, we have many dentists that contact us wanting our graduates mainly because we are one of the only schools that has actual on the job training.
-------- Will you take a certification test at the end of your course? ---------
You will take 2 certifications (CPR and OSHA) around midterms, Radiation Certification through the Oklahoma Dental Foundation (they set date and time and place) then at the end of our course, you will take a series of tests to achieve your DA Certificate for completion of our course
