Why does write /n/? Didn't you wonder about that when you were in school? I did.

This present-day English consonant digraph once was a consonant cluster, two adjacent consonants letters each pronounced separately. In Old English times it was /k/, /n/. Just like words have evolved in spelling, meaning, and pronunciation so have our English graphemes.

Dyslexia is genetic. It runs in families. Not everyone who has dyslexia has all the possible characteristics. There are also varying levels of difficulty with reading, spelling, writing, directionality, working memory, etc. It's definitely not a one-size-fits-all experience.

Sometimes you may think, like we did with our daughter, that there isn't a family history. But over time, we realized we do have some relatives who struggled with academics and literacy. Like all families, we inherited strengths and weaknesses. It's what we do with what we've got that matters!
