If you wish to join the group be sure to submit your piece no later than September 11th. Your piece should showcase your writing abilities, style, and potential vision for what you want to do in the group.
The purpose of the group is to help you create and workshop new creative writing. The group may offer guidance and feedback for all aspects of the writing process.
Guidelines:
- All types of creative writing can be submitted: stageplays, screenplays, prose (or books), poetry, etc.
- Please limit your submission to: 30 pages or less of a play; 30 pages or less of a screenplay; 10 pages or less of prose; 5 pages or less of poems. Generally, enough writing to see the beginning/middle/end of a scene/story. If you only have an idea, please share a Google Doc with the story arc details of it to the best of your ability.
- Typed work only. No physical papers or scans of them will be accepted.
- Work will not be specifically denied for “inappropriate” content. However, please keep in mind that your work will be read and analyzed by the entire writing group as they give feedback. Writing that contains excessive profanity, suggestive content, etc. will be scrutinized for its purpose and must include relevant trigger warnings before being read in the group.
- Writers lab meets Tuesday nights from 6:30pm-8pm in N1. This will be a commitment with assigned weekly writing goals for sharpening your work. You are encouraged to submit only if you know that you will be serious about it and can make most or all of these meetings. As with all Thunderbird Theater Company work, you may be dismissed from the group if you cannot also maintain your other academics (more than one “F” grade). Meetings may be cancelled during tech weeks or other peak times in the department or school.
- Ideally, these pieces are then produced for the Theater Department Writer’s Fest or Film Festival. However, do not assume that your work will automatically be produced for Writer’s Fest, etc. because you are selected.
- Your piece must be workshopped during a group session 1-2 times to be produced into the Writer’s Fest
