Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times of year. No matter where you are or who you are with, it is a time to slow down and take a moment to be grateful for the blessings in your life. ❤️
We are grateful for so many things this year including all of the families who entrust us with the early care and education of their little ones. We love you all! Happy Thanksgiving!

LOVE... Did you know that the love of a caregiver can actually have an incredible positive influence on a child's brain? 🧠
The Source, from Washington University, shared this about their findings:
"School-age children whose mothers nurtured them early in life have brains with a larger hippocampus, a key structure important to learning, memory and response to stress.
The new research, by child psychiatrists and neuroscientists at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, is the first to show that changes in this critical region of children’s brain anatomy are linked to a mother’s nurturing.
Their research is published online in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences Early Edition.
'This study validates something that seems to be intuitive, which is just how important nurturing parents are to creating adaptive human beings,' says lead author Joan L. Luby, MD, professor of child psychiatry. 'I think the public health implications suggest that we should pay more attention to parents’ nurturing, and we should do what we can as a society to foster these skills because clearly nurturing has a very, very big impact on later development.'
The fact that the researchers found a larger hippocampus in the healthy children who were nurtured is striking, Luby says, because the hippocampus is such an important brain structure.
When the body faces stresses, the brain activates the autonomic nervous system, an involuntary system of nerves that controls the release of stress hormones. Those hormones help us cope with stress by increasing the heart rate and helping the body adapt. The hippocampus is the main brain structure involved in that response. It’s also key in learning and memory, and larger volumes would suggest a link to improved performance in school, among other things."
So while today is a day dedicated to love, it would seem that if each and every day is filled with love, that our most treasured people in the world will benefit. ❤️

Today is Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year. Many cultures fill this day with festivals and traditions, celebrating the return of the light after the darkest day. Here are some ideas for how you can enjoy this day with your little ones (or big ones!) and start your own Winter Solstice traditions!
🌲 Paper snowflakes: Why not teach your kiddos how to properly fold and cutout a snowflake?! This is such a simple and beautiful craft, that when completed, can be hung around the house for all to enjoy!
🌲 Paper cup (or paper bag) luminaries: These are so simple and magical! Just find some paper bags or cups that you have lying around your home, cut some holes, or shapes in them, and place a small candle or light inside. Your children will be enamored with the soft glowing light these emit and how they light up this dark day.
🌲Take a Winter Solstice walk: Wait until the sun goes down, bundle up, grab a few lanterns or flashlights and take a walk around the neighborhood. Not only will the brisk night air awaken your senses, but you will all enjoy the twinkle of the Christmas lights as you stroll that much more on this day. ❤️
Do you have any Winter Solstice traditions?

With the holidays here you may be noticing that your children are a bit more emotional than usual. As you may know, this is more than likely a response to the over stimulation from the extra activities that occur this time of year. From the school parties to the parades, all of this extra stimulation can cause their young brains to overload and elicit a heavy emotional response from their right-brain. As a parent or teacher it helps to know that we can actually, quite easily, help our children through these emotional storms by simply responding to them in a very right-brained way. By appealing to their emotional self with patience and love, we can help them to calm their bodies, thus allowing them to get to a point where they can eventually have a more logical (left-brain) conversation with us about the incident. Practice patience and love throughout this holiday season, because, as we all know, love always wins. ❤️

Whatever your Thanksgiving traditions, we hope that you surround yourself with those you love. ❤️

LT. HEATHER LUCKY PENNY was stationed at Andrews AFB on 9-11-2001.
She received orders to take down United Flight 93 with her F-16 which had no missiles or live ammo.
She said, "I would essentially be a kamikaze pilot". She and Col Marc Sasseville took off; he going for cockpit, and she for the tail.
However, because of the heroic actions of the incredibly amazing passengers that day, Flt 93 went down in a PA field.
Today, when asked why she was willing to fly a kamikaze mission she didn't hesitate. “Why? Because there are things in this world more important than oneself"..... and she goes on to name them:
“Freedom. The Constitution of the United States. Our way of life. Mom… baseball… apple pie; these things and so many more that make us uniquely American. We belong to something greater than ourselves. As complex and diverse and discordant as it is… this thing… this idea called America binds us together in citizenship and community and brotherhood."
God bless Lt. Heather Lucky Penny, and all the other heroes and heroines of 9/11/2001…. and God bless America!
NEVER EVER FORGET… 🇺🇸 ❤ 🇺🇸 #911
