🧠💜 September is World Alzheimer’s Month 💜🧠

A time to raise awareness, fight stigma, and support those living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia — including many in the LGBTQ+ community.

LGBTQ+ older adults living with Alzheimer’s face unique challenges:
🏳️‍🌈 Many are more likely to live alone
🏳️‍🌈 May lack family support or caregiving networks
🏳️‍🌈 Often face discrimination or lack of cultural competency in healthcare settings
🏳️‍🌈 Are less likely to seek care due to fear of mistreatment

At Siskiyou Outreach, we recognize the importance of inclusive, affirming care for LGBTQ+ people affected by Alzheimer’s. Everyone deserves to age with dignity, respect, and support, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity

This month, let’s spread awareness and advocate for better access to memory care, caregiver support, and culturally competent services for ALL.

Cooling centers are available to anyone who needs them!

COOLING CENTERS!

With dangerously hot weather expected over the coming days, its important to keep yourself safe.

If you or someone you know needs a cool place to escape the heat, there are various cooling centers are available throughout the County.

A few reminders to help you beat the heat:
💧 Drink plenty of water, even if you don't feel thirsty.
🏠 Stay indoors or in air-conditioned spaces during the hottest part of the day.
👒 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and take frequent breaks if you must be outside.
👵 Check on older adults, neighbors, and anyone who may be more vulnerable to extreme heat.

🐾 Don't forget about your pets!
Make sure they have plenty of fresh water and shade, avoid walking them on hot pavement, and never leave people or pets in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes. Temperatures inside a vehicle can become deadly very quickly.

Let's all do our part to stay safe, look out for one another, and take this heat seriously.
