As parochial schools were in session, our mentoring program was also offering opportunities for high school students to forge meaningful relationships with middle and elementary school kids. Since the library is closed, we will be giving away new and gently used books for kids grades K-6 at Arbor Meadows (5229 W. Michigan Ave, Ypsilanti) on Saturday, December 5 from noon to 2 p.m. Look for us in the clubhouse parking lot. All used books have been cleaned and in quarantine for a week.

New Horizons has partnered with Christ the King in Detroit to offer mentoring to its K-8 students.

New Horizons Education will be offering a one to one virtual mentorship for students who will be 8th graders at both Scarlett Middle School in Ann Arbor and Christ the King Catholic School in Detroit for the 2020-21 academic year. Do you know of young people in these communities who could use a mentor? Let us know.
Hope you are all safe and sound. Encouraging your child to read 20-30 minutes a day is a great way to exercise those academic muscles.
We want to extend a thank you to all of those who supported our fundraising efforts in December. We now can use this money to assist Scarlett Middle School students during this unprecedented break from school.

The study club is rounding the corner of its third year of serving Scarlett students. Volunteers from the University of Michigan and the community are available after school on Tuesday to assist students in the media center.

Scarlett students held another great session with the University of Michigan Computer Science group Hackblue. Learning and card tricks! The group will be back in January. Details forthcoming.
All Scarlett Middle School students interested in homework help or just hanging out and having fun are invited to come to the media center after school on Tuesdays. Volunteers from the University of Michigan and local organizations will work with students. Pass the word !
