In 1946 Rev. Farther Roberson, Sr. purchased land to establish a final rating place for Black Ypsilanti community members. Because of racial discrimination there were few options for Black people. There are 150+ Black people buried there including about 50 veterans. The Saturday before Memorial Day we declare to be Black Memorial Restoration Day. We will continue to restore the abandoned cemetery by removing brush and debris, finding headstones, and documenting the names of those we discover. Please join us. This is an opportunity to resist the erasure of Blak history.
