What an amazing day! We had the honor of celebrating EMU Occupational Therapy’s 85-year legacy and 15 years of the Lyla M. Spelbring lectureship with Dr. Shirley Wells, one of AOTA’s top 100 influential occupational therapists, for her keynote lecture “No One Left Out: Reimagining Occupational Therapy Through the Lens of Inclusion.” The lecture covered the importance of fostering a true sense of belonging through foreseeing barriers to participation and challenging systems that are discriminatory. Students took away a greater understanding of the kind of practitioners they want to be.

This Labor Day, we reflect on St. John Paul II’s reminder: “Work is for man, and not man for work.” In Laborem Exercens, he connects work with human dignity, purpose, and participation—ideas that deeply resonate with Occupational Therapy. OT helps people engage in the work, roles, and occupations that bring meaning and purpose to their lives. Happy Labor Day! 🇺🇸
