Academic Summer Camp

Summer learning loss or summer slide is the loss of academic skills and knowledge over the course of summer vacation. Don’t let your student lose their academic edge.

The camp consists of 15 classes or three days per week, June 27-July 28, 2023 on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Time of classes is organized by grade. Class size is limited to 12 students per grade to provide personalized teaching and support.

Students are rewarded for reaching benchmarks throughout the camp.

Students who successfully complete all 15 classes receive a Certificate of Achievement and a Prize.

Need more academic support. Regular tutoring hours are Monday-Friday, 4 p.m.-8 p.m.

Wonderful time at the Round Table Discussion for Black Entrepreneurs and Small, Minority Owned Businesses hosted by the A2Y Chamber of Commerce. Great to connect with others on the same journey. I got to meet Anqunette "Q" Sarfoh, former Fox 2 Detroit morning anchor. The event was held at the Detroit Selfie Museum in Briarwood Mall. I got my selfie on - tried to pose with duck lips. Stay positive and hold on to your dreams.

Volunteer Responsibilities
• Tutor PreK-12 students in reading, writing, or math.
• Hold on-line homework help sessions and study groups.
• Attend Craft & Vendor Shows (optional)
Qualifications
• Must be 16 or older.
• Dependable.
• Must be creative, out of the box thinker. Fun person.
• Able to explain concepts in a variety of ways.
• Establish rapport with students, parents, and co-workers.
• Have patience when working with children. Open-minded.
• High school diploma, GED, or college degree a plus.
• Reliable transportation.
• Can commit to a minimum of two hours per week.
Compensation
• Flexible hours (Open Monday-Friday, 4 p.m.-8 p.m.).
• Meals and gas money (Negotiable).
• Free tutor certification through National Tutoring Association after 90 days.
• Free GED instructor training if 17 and older after 90 days.
