Congratulations to Cory Muraco for getting STEM Outstanding Alumnus Award! Cory graduated YSU with BS Chemistry (2011) and MS in Chemistry (2013, Dr. Serra research advisor). Currently, Cory Muraco is a Senior Product Manager for Large Molecule Reference Materials at MilliporSigma.

Congratulations to Dr. Tim Wagner on his retirement after 33 years at YSU! Thank you for all you've done for the YSU, the Department, faculty and students!

The Spring 2025 STEM College Commencement speaker was Dr. Chris Ciolli. Dr. Ciolli, YSU Department of Chemistry alumnus, is an accomplished scientist and current Director of Data and Technology Process Excellence for The Lubrizol Corporation. Dr. Ciolli extended heartfelt congratulations to our Chemistry and Biochemistry graduates before the Commencement ceremony. Dr. Ciolli encouraged them to carry the knowledge and skills they acquired at YSU into their future endeavors.

April 13, 2025, Choose Ohio First Scholarship Program held the annual regional conference at Kent State University. Four YSU Biochemistry majors participated in the conference. Graham Seditz’s project “Kinetic Analysis of Bacterial Glutathione Transferase Immobilized on Cross-linked Chitosan Beads” was selected to receive a Top Presentation Award. Meghan Crump. Liam Hetzel, and Lanee Matz presented their project “Immobilization of Bacterial Cells on Alginate Beads for Detoxication of Halogenated Compounds”. Both projects were conducted under the guidance of Professor Nina V Stourman.
