ICYMI: Did you see a familiar face in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade?! Congratulations again, and thank you to OUR band director, Mr. Summers, for proudly representing Liberty in New York! Mr. Summers participated as a member of America’s Band Directors, which is composed of 400 directors from across the country.

Happy Thanksgiving from the Liberty Local School District!

Thanks to the Trumbull County Juvenile Courts for visiting our 5th and 6th graders today to discuss the importance of being safe online!

Debbie Minniti, the Transportation Director at Liberty, collaborated with PK-6 Elementary secretaries Deanne Spisak and Jill Burton, 2nd-grade teacher Carla Collins, and bus mechanic Dale Fuller to significantly enhance multiple Liberty families' Thanksgiving this year. During the past weekend, they volunteered with Steel City Warriors, distributing 65 Thanksgiving meals to families in need within our community. With a six-year service history, Steel City Warriors has been actively assisting others, having delivered over 7,000 meals for Thanksgiving.

Arts in Non-Arts Spaces, with our pals from SMARTS, is back! Today, Jen Carlson, an abstract artist from SMARTS, spent time in both our campus spots with her live painting. Students could chat about her art and catch the masterpiece in the making.
We look forward to our friends from Smarts joining us all school year, showcasing their talents in nonart spaces!

In Cami Hefner's 6th grade STEM class, our talented students have been putting their creativity to the test. They used 3D printers to craft unique cookie cutters, and the results were nothing short of impressive!
These young innovators put their cookie cutters to good use, baking and decorating cookies inspired by Liberty Schools!
Our PK-2 Principal, Jessica Kohler, had the tough task of choosing the best designs. The verdict is in - 1st place goes to the Pawss cookie 🥇, designed to look like our district's therapy dog Pawss, and 2nd place was a Leopard! 🥈

Our 4th graders and 1st graders joined forces for buddy reading today!

Recently, our first-grade classes had an exciting experience as they learned about the significance of fire safety. Thank you to the Liberty Fire Department for explaining how smoke detectors function and providing valuable insights into responding in the event of a fire.
In Mrs. Clark's class, the students engaged in a smoke simulation exercise to reinforce the critical lesson of staying close to the ground during a fire emergency. This hands-on activity allowed our students to memorably practice and understand this crucial safety measure.

Last Thursday, Miss Sandy's 2nd-grade music class had a unique lesson with LA Music Producer Lawrence Grey. He's the founder of the Young Producers Group, teaching kids music production skills across Los Angeles. Lawrence showed them how to record voices using pro microphones and Ableton Live software, thanks to Youngstown State University's support for local teachers' professional development in Ableton. It was a memorable day, sparking their passion for music and creativity.
Check out the student's creation from the day with Lawrence!

On September 15, several Churchhill United Methodist Church members generously donated to Mrs. Collins' second-grade class. They provided four caterpillars, a suitable habitat, and an informative Monarch Butterfly book.
Over the past few weeks, the class had the privilege of closely observing these caterpillars as they devoured milkweed plants, spun their protective chrysalises, and emerged as stunning Monarch butterflies. As they prepared for flight, the group nourished them with fresh fruit and sugar water to ensure their wings grew strong.
Then, on the memorable Monday of October 2, the second graders received invaluable assistance from our superintendent, Dr. Tommelleo, and our friends at Churchill United Methodist Church. Together, they tagged the butterflies and released them on their incredible journey to Mexico, where they will continue their remarkable life cycle. This hands-on experience has been an enriching and educational adventure for the class, thanks to the support and generosity of our community.

Come and join us for great fun, great food, and great people!

Liberty PK-6 art students recently created a special birthday surprise for a community member. Edna Conrad is a lifelong Liberty resident who is a patient at a local nursing faculity who just recently celebrated her 100th birthday.
It all started when the school's art teacher, Ms. Terlecki, was approached by Sarah Benson, a Hospice Consultant, to see if Liberty students could make Edna's centennial birthday celebration extra special. The students wholeheartedly embraced this opportunity, pouring their creativity into crafting over 150 cards. These cards were transformed into beautiful flowers, forming a magnificent 3-foot-tall bouquet that would serve as the centerpiece of Edna's celebration.
The impact of this gesture extended beyond words, said Sarah Benson, a Southern Care Executive Hospice Consultant, "Most of the time, people buy cards and sign them, and we try and gather 100 cards, but this time it's way more special. It's bright and beautiful, and you can hang it on her wall for the duration. I love it so much."
What made this gift all the more meaningful was that it was a genuine representation of the Liberty community coming together to make a difference. Little did Ms.Terlecki and her students know flowers are Edna's favorite, and seeing this heartfelt bouquet lit up her face on her 100th birthday.
Edna's connection to Liberty Local Schools runs deep. In the late 1960s, she served as a cook in the school's cafeteria, and her granddaughter Sydney, a 2019 Liberty High School graduate, is a fourth generation to graduate from the district.
On behalf of Liberty Local Schools, happy birthday, Edna! We're so glad you liked the cards!

We are excited to announce a great opportunity for our Liberty preschool through sixth-grade students! We believe that regular school attendance is essential for academic success, and to encourage this, we're launching an attendance incentive for the months of October and November. If your child maintains perfect attendance during these two months, they will be automatically entered into a drawing for a chance to win five tickets to the Cleveland Browns vs. Chicago Bears game in Cleveland on December 17, 2023. We hope this incentive motivates all of our students to be present and engaged in their learning! We look forward to celebrating their dedication to school attendance and wish everyone the best of luck in the drawing!
