Don't forget TOMORROW (Aug. 24) is the first day of school for our YCSD scholars. We are excited to welcome you back! Scheduled times: 7:00 AM - 2:30 PM for Chaney and East High Schools, 7:45-AM - 3:15 PM for Chaney MS @ McGuffey and East MS, 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM for Elementary Schools K-5.

Hello Chaney Middle School families!
I am so excited to serve/lead your scholars as the NEW Chaney Middle School principal! I have an administrative team in place that will ensure that your scholars will receive high-quality instruction and experiences. At the end of last year we purposely put systems in place so that the year would end successfully. These systems will continue for this school year as well. No cell phones, earbuds/Airpods, and headphones will be allowed during the school day. There will be no exceptions to this expectation. If a scholar brings a cell phone, earbuds/Airpods, or headphones they will be collected at the building entrance and held by an administrator or an administrator designee until dismissal. The devices will be returned to the scholars during dismissal. If a scholar fails to surrender their device(s) upon arrival the device(s) will be collected by the Dean and you will have to come to the school to retrieve them. I am strongly encouraging you to keep these devices at home. If there is an emergency and you need to contact your scholar every classroom and office in the building is equipped with a landline for that purpose. Below is the Code of Excellence's policy on electronic devices:
8. ELECTRONIC DEVICES – No student shall have radios, CD/MP3 players, headphones, electronic pagers (beepers), cellular phones, laser pointers or games during the school day. These items will be confiscated for 24 hours and must be picked up by a parent/guardian.
Also, there were several dress code violations that occurred last year. While you are preparing your scholar for the new school year shopping for school clothes and shoes please be mindful of the items listed below in the Code of Excellence that are not acceptable.
As a general rule, all garments must be neat, clean, properly sized, without holes and rips*, and in acceptable repair. Students may not wear anything that promotes gangs; to***co, drug and alcohol use; sexual activity; or anything illegal or immoral.
Tops: Upper garments must be properly sized. Underwear, chest, back and midsection may not be visible. All shirts must be no longer than wrist length. If the shirt is longer than wrist length, the shirt must be tucked in. See- thru tops are not permitted and will be asked to change to an appropriate top.
Bottoms: All lower garments must be anchored at the natural waist and cannot drag on the ground or have writing across the seat. Garments that are tight-fitting**, oversized, drooping and exposing more than mid-thigh are not permitted. Pant waistbands must not be more than one inch bigger than the correctly measured student waist size. Pants cannot be gathered or drawn together at the waist and must not hang below the waist. *Pants with holes or rips must have pants underneath with no skin visible. **Tight-fitting pants must be worn with a finger-tip length top.
Please feel free to contact me with any concerns you may have about these district and building expectations. Thank you for all you do!

Principal Aadrain Yancey

YCSD’s Transportation Department fielded about 40 calls yesterday to help answer questions about school bus transportation. We are adding more staff to answer calls. We have also created an online help ticket for anyone who needs assistance.

Please use this link https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe8L_uQCLKSNx5iF8E-y6FsDOCw31D18A9MjkpiEAC9Dgvp5w/viewform. When parents fill out a request form, they will receive an email with the relevant information. The E-Link is working, but sometimes, when parents cannot access what they need, it can be a user input error. Parents add spaces or forget 0s in dates. Those who are just recently enrolled at their school are not showing up until routed. Please try again.

We appreciate your patience as we work together to address your concerns! We will be having a Townhall Transportation Zoom Meeting soon about school transportation and using the E-Link portal. Please stay tuned to Facebook for updates.

Follow the link below to learn more about YCSD school transportation. Families can locate their scholars' bus information through E-Link. E-Link can be found on the YCSD website through the TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT Tab, under the DEPARTMENT's category. Once on the transportation page, you will find the instructions on how to log in to retrieve the information. Use this link, https://www.ycsd.org/departments/transportation. The Versatrans E-Link Parent Portal allows parents to look up the scholar's bus assignment information. Click on E-Link Parent Portal and log in using the following: Username = jane.smith ← that’s jane dot smith with no spaces (scholar's first name.scholar's last name, with no spaces). Password is the scholar’s date of birth = 01012014 (passwords are 2-digit month, 2-digit day and 4-digit year like 01012014).

Please call our Transportation Department at 330-744-5905 if you have questions. We need more school bus drivers, and YCSD will provide free training and pay for the CDL licensing for new school bus drivers. Reach out to the Transportation Department to learn more! Don't forget school starts on Wednesday, August 24th!

Today is National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day. According to the American Psychological Association, the day seeks to raise awareness about the importance of children's mental health and show that positive mental health is essential to a child's healthy development. At YCSD, we not only want to educate minds but make sure our scholars are provided with a safe, welcoming environment. If needed, they can have the opportunity, with parental consent, to see a behavioral health nurse practitioner at one of our YOU Care Clinics. This service is another way we aim to aid our scholars. Go to https://www.apa.org/pi/families/children-awareness-day to learn more.
