Happy 117th Founders’ Day, Sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®!

On this day, January 15th, 1908, nine visionary women at Howard University sparked a sisterhood that has grown into a global force for good.

From that first meeting in Miner Hall to today, we proudly stand as a sisterhood of over 360,000 members across 12 nations, including the U.S., Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, UAE, Germany, Japan, Liberia, Nigeria, South Korea, South Africa, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

As we celebrate under the 2022-2026 Administration, and the theme ‘Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood,’ we honor the enduring legacy of our Founders, and continue to impact communities globally.

Here’s to 117 years of service, sisterhood, and soaring higher together!🩷💚

The Youngstown Warren Black Caucus honored Epsilon Mu Omega Chapter along with the Divine Nine at their 13th Annual Banquet on Thursday, September 19, 2024. Thank you, we are deeply grateful to accept this honor.

Epsilon Mu Omega Chapter and Delta Delta Chapter on the campus of Youngstown State University are on a mission to Advocate for Social Justice! We were present and ready to assist with voter registration at the National Pan-Hellenic Task Force Yard Show!

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® mourns the loss of our Sister Sheila Jackson Lee, known as the “Voice of Reason” in the U.S. Congress.

A true “Advocate for Social Justice” and human rights, Sister Jackson Lee served for more than 30 years representing the 18th Congressional District of Texas located in Houston. Upon her election to Congress, she was immediately placed on the high-profile House Judiciary Committee in 1995.

Sister Jackson Lee stood strong as a fierce advocate for women and people-of-color. A leader of House Democrats on many social justice issues including police reforms, reparations for enslaved people and protection for women.

She authored the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act which led to the first federal holiday in 38 years and the writing of the Violence Against Women’s Act which provided protections for all women.

She served on three Congressional Committees — as a senior member of the House Committees on the Judiciary, Homeland Security, and the crucial Budget Committee; and was appointed the first female Ranking Member of the Judiciary Subcommittee for Crime and Federal Government Surveillance, of which she served as Chair during the 117th Congress.

A native of Queens, New York, Sister Jackson Lee earned a bachelor’s degree from Yale University with honors, followed by a juris doctorate from the University of Virginia Law School.

Our sincerest condolences are also with her family including her Husband Dr. Elwyn Lee, their two children Jason Lee and her legacy, Sister Erica Lee. She was also the proud grandmother of two grandchildren.

Sister Jackson Lee was initiated into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Alpha Kappa Omega Chapter in 1988, and attained distinction as a Silver member.

May we always remember Sister Jackson Lee as a fierce and true Advocate for Social Justice through career, service and sisterhood.
