More information is available at any location of The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County and a drive through event will occur on July 20, 10:00 AM-NOON at Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities - MCBDD Leonard Kirtz School. 📨 Mahoning County welcomes the Blue Envelope Program! 📨
Prosecutor DeGenova, Sheriff Jerry Greene, and other community partners are happy to introduce the new Mahoning County Blue Envelope Program!
"We recognized a critical need for a tool that helps bridge the communication gap between individuals with autism or other special needs and first responders," said Mahoning County Prosecutor Gina DeGenova, "The Blue Envelope Program is a proactive step towards creating safer and more supportive communities for everyone."
This program, with its clear objective of assisting individuals during interactions with law enforcement and emergency personnel, will promote inclusivity and serve as an enhanced communication awareness tool. It is specifically designed to bridge the gap between law enforcement officers and community members with a condition or disability such as autism, anxiety, physical disability, or other conditions that might require additional accommodations or awareness during an interaction with law enforcement.
Blue Envelope materials will be available at any Mahoning County library (The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County) locations starting July 1st, 2024.
On Saturday, July 20th, several county organizations will host a drive-thru event at the Leonard Kirtz School in Austintown. There, attendees will go through a simulated traffic stop, learn how the program works, and collect a kit that will provide all the needed materials. More information can be found on our website;
