The MET program includes both classroom and laboratory experiences. Graduates of the MET AAS degree program work as engineering technicians.
The page is for helpful information for future students interested in the YSU MET program and parents of the students, as well as; current students sharing helpful information about classes, jobs, experience, etc. The Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) program at YSU offers a wide variety of opportunities to students interested in pursuing a career in the mechanical engineering technology fie
ld. Students may choose to complete two years of study and earn an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) Mechanical Engineering Technology degree , or they may continue on their formal education to earn the Bachelor of Science in Applied Science (BSAS) Mechanical Engineering Technology degree. The curriculum stresses the application of established engineering and computer knowledge and methods to the solution of practical problems. They include the study of sciences and mathematics supporting technology as well as methods, processes, skills, and materials used in technology. The industry-oriented two-year degree allows them to quickly find employment in their chosen field. Due to the practical nature of the program, they immediately become productive in careers involving design, drafting, testing, and production of industrial machines and consumer products. Most AAS graduates choose to continue their education, often with employer support. Graduates of the BSAS degree program work as engineering technologists. Because their education is more extensive, they are prepared for more responsibility and more rapid advancement. Application-oriented courses in hydraulics, tool design, machine design, and robotics prepare them for more advanced design work, while courses dealing with manufacturing systems analysis, quality control, and industrial management prepare them for supervisory positions in industry. Graduates also find employment as technical sales representatives or as technical writers. Because their education includes management training, they may serve as supervisors in planning, design, construction, production and maintenance activities. The practical nature of the program means placement of graduates has always been outstanding, and YSU's Mechanical Engineering Technology graduates have risen to the highest levels in their companies.
The Mechanical Engineering Technology Program at YSU retains its tradition as a small school in maintaining close contact between its students and faculty. The majority of the Mechanical Engineering Technology faculty are licensed professional engineers with a master's or higher academic degree and with many years of industrial experience. The Mechanical Engineering Technology program also utilizes dynamic part-time faculty who use their expertise and experience to bring the students a real-world education
