Happy National School Psychology Week! Today is the fourth annual NSPW Advocacy Action Day.
It has been a busy and exciting year for advocacy with unprecedented investments to address the critical shortage of school psychologists and other school mental health professionals, which has shown Congress’ commitment to the mental health needs of our students as we address the youth mental health crisis. We know that school psychologists are expertly equipped to help students and school communities respond to and thrive during difficult times. While these investments are appreciated and much needed, schools across the country will need sustained additional funding and support from local, state, and federal governments to fully remedy workforce shortages.
The increased attention to school psychology during NSPW makes it an ideal time for you to get involved in advocacy – and doing your part will only take five minutes.
Here’s the action we’re asking you to take on Wednesday, November 9th:
Contact your elected state and federal representatives: https://www.nasponline.org/research-and-policy/advocacy/national-school-psychology-week-(nspw)/advocacy-action-day
Post a message to social media, reinforcing this message
Connect with your school board to see how you can advocate for school psychology at the local level
Direct communication to legislators from their constituents can go a long way in influencing the policymaking process. Your participation is critical to policy successes for school psychologists!
