Weβre thrilled to launch our revamped Foreign Language Program, blending expert-led instruction with state-of-the-art online tools, including Rosetta Stone. Starting Fall 2024, students can study Spanish, French, German, Chinese, and Italian through immersive lessons, native speaker tutoring, and interactive activities. This approach equips students with conversational skills and cultural insights, setting them up for success in a diverse, connected world. ππβ¨

Amy Fluker, associate professor of History at YSU and professor for the Practicum in Historic Preservation, a project-based, community-engaged course, tasked her students registered during the spring 2024 semester, with a project centered around building a publicly-accessible, digital database. YSU students created a digital StoryMap of burial records for seven Jewish cemeteries in Youngstown, combining history, archival science, and GIS skills. This collaborative effort with the Youngstown Area Jewish Cemeteries Association and YSU's Center for Applied GIS provides an interactive, community-engaged archive. π

The Steel Museum clinched the Ohio Academy History Public History Award for our exhibit, 'Hearing Our Voices: Discovering Black Youngstown.' This exhibit, a culmination of our Museum Curation and Interpretation class, was made possible by the Charles Darling Memorial Endowment in American History. Don't miss out! Come experience it firsthand - on display until May 2025 at the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor. π
