If you’ve ever visited and taken a ride on our elevator, chances are you’ve noticed the beautiful bulletin board display designed by our Hair Design instructor, TaNeka Hogan Allison, and her students.

Their creativity and attention to detail have brightened our building and created something our students, staff, and visitors enjoy every day. 🐝✨

We loved seeing this photo from Chaney High School’s commencement ceremony today! 🎓

Every senior at receives a stole to wear at both our Senior Awards Ceremony and their home school commencement ceremony. These stoles represent the many accomplishments, certifications, and credentials students earned throughout their two-year career tech journey at Choffin.

We are so proud of all our graduates and the hard work they put in preparing for their futures! 💙✨

In observance of Memorial Day, YCSD will be closed on Monday, May 25.

Join us in pausing to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. We are deeply grateful for their selfishness and dedication to protecting our freedoms. 🇺🇸

Choffin Senior Awards 2026 05/22/2026

On Tuesday, May 19, Choffin Career & Technical Center proudly hosted its academy-wide Senior Awards Ceremony at Stambaugh Auditorium.

Traditionally held at Choffin, this year’s change in venue allowed even more friends and family members to join us in celebrating our seniors. With a full house in attendance, we recognized students from our six specialized academies:

🎭 Academy of the Arts
💼 Academy of Business & Entrepreneurship
🔧 Academy of the Skilled Trades
🩺 YOUMed Academy
📚 Pathways to Success Academy
🚔 Public Safety Academy

…along with the outstanding programs housed within each academy.

A special thank you to our keynote speaker, Dr. Martin Freeman, Ombudsman for Youngstown City School District, for sharing words of encouragement and inspiration with our graduates.

This year also marked a major milestone as the first year all YCSD students attended a career-tech program at Choffin, alongside students from our partner districts. As a half-day career and technical center, Choffin offers students the best of both worlds - the opportunity to prepare for their futures through hands-on career training while remaining connected to their home high schools for academics and extracurricular experiences.

We are incredibly of the Class of 2026 and cannot wait to see all they accomplish! 🎓✨

We are incredibly proud of our Culinary Arts juniors, Defenders of Flavor, who recently represented Youngstown City School District and Choffin Career & Technical Center at the Ohio Grown: Student Chef Showcase!

This statewide, student-centered culinary competition challenged students to create and prepare an original school lunch recipe using fresh, locally sourced Ohio ingredients.

Representing Choffin were:
✨ Mariell Lee
✨ Breylin Yuman de La Rosa
✨ Alondra Rivera Rodriguez
✨ Matthias Meadows

While the team did not return home with a winning banner, they gained something just as valuable, real-world experience. Throughout the competition, students worked together to problem-solve, adapt under pressure, and navigate unexpected challenges just like professionals in a working kitchen.

We are so proud of the professionalism, teamwork, creativity, and resilience they demonstrated while representing Choffin and YCSD with pride. 💙💚

Happening now: Our Ohio Grown: Student Chef Showcase! Five student teams are preparing original school lunch entrées, featuring fresh fruits, vegetables, and proteins, before a panel of judges.

We’re cheering for these talented student chefs competing today, representing five school communities.

🍽️ Cory-Rawson Local Schools
🍽️ Hamilton City School District
🍽️ Sycamore Community Schools
🍽️ Youngstown City SD

Earlier this school year, we challenged students to submit original recipes using local, fresh foods that can be used in school meal programs. Student teams submitted their original recipes along with a nutrient analysis and cost breakdown, demonstrating that the recipe can be replicated as part of a school meal and served in cafeterias across the state.

This week, our Career Based Intervention (CBI) students took advantage of the nice weather by giving back to our school community through service-learning, helping to mulch our front flower beds. 🌱☀️

Thank you, The Home Depot, for donating 12 bags of mulch and garden gloves for our beautification project!
