The Tressel Institute for Leadership and Teamwork at Youngstown State University is taking its Summer Leadership Institute to the next level by expanding the experience into year-round programming!

This summer, 24 high school students from 16 school districts came together for three days of hands-on leadership development, teamwork, community engagement and personal growth. From team-building challenges to serving the community, students stepped outside their comfort zones, built confidence and discovered what it means to lead with purpose.

Now, their leadership journey continues throughout the school year with workshops, service opportunities, campus events and opportunities to reconnect with their peers.

We can’t wait to see how these future leaders continue to grow, serve and make an impact in their schools and communities! 🐧✨

How to Submit a Volunteer Opportunity for Promotion

YSU PenguinPulse allows anyone to submit a volunteer opportunity for potential publishing and promotion on the platform.

To submit an opportunity, go to ysu.givepulse.com and scroll down to click on the “Submit Opportunity” button on the right side of the page.

Please submit your request no less than two weeks out from the intended date. This gives us time to reach out to the contact if necessary, edit, and properly promote the opportunity to students.

This can be a great asset to attach to resumes or applications, and it’s easy to access.

Just log into YSU PenguinPulse, click the user drop-down menu, and select “Impact Summary” to find your record and print!

An impact is any form of community engagement activity (hours served, money raised, goods donated, etc.) that you track in YSU PenguinPulse.

If you took part in a volunteer opportunity that you registered for in YPP, then go to that event page and click the “Add Impact” button to begin filling out the form to track your service.

If you volunteered independently, simply click the user drop-down menu in YPP and select “Add Impact.”

In general, do NOT choose the “Add Impact” button from the main YPP home page. Only use this option if you volunteered for the university
