/ Isaac Asimov /
"The only function of a school is to make self-education easier; failing that, it does nothing. What's more, formal education stops; self-education never does."
"Isaac Asimov was an American writer and professor of biochemistry at Boston University. During his lifetime, Asimov was considered one of the "Big Three" science fiction writers, along with Robert A. Heinlein and Arthur C. Clarke. A prolific writer, he wrote or edited more than 500 books. He also wrote an estimated 90,000 letters and postcards. Best known for his hard science fiction, Asimov also wrote mysteries and fantasy, as well as much nonfiction. Asimov's most famous work is the Foundation series, the first three books of which won the one-time Hugo Award for "Best All-Time Series" in 1966. His other major series are the Galactic Empire series and the Robot series. The Galactic Empire novels are set in the much earlier history of the same fictional universe as the Foundation series. Later, with Foundation and Earth, he linked this distant future to the Robot stories, creating a unified "future history" for his stories."

Greetings Family and Friends of MSMV!
As we begin a new school year, let us renew our focus on the Montessori principles of Grace and Courtesy in the classroom- and beyond! Maria Montessori showed us the ways to allow our children to develop their potential. Our children are always choosing who they are to become as people, developing the skills that will help them find their place in our world, and becoming the future leaders of our world.
Despite the decreased opportunities to practice social skills that has affected all of us at some point in the last 3½ years, we can all continue to encourage our children to practice Grace and Courtesy at school, at home, and anywhere that they socialize.
We can all follow the link below to re-familiarize ourselves with all the different skills that Grace and Courtesy encompasses. We strive to teach many of these skills every day as the opportunity with each child develops- with lessons, naturalistic teaching, and observation of every child’s progress. Also, children often learn these skills when an adult models them.

I share with you some brief words of Shinichi Suzuki, who with his words and actions embodied the principles of Grace and Courtesy in everything that he did for his students.
“It is in our power to educate all the children of the world to become a little better as people, a little happier.”
“The very way one greets people and expresses oneself is art…A work of art is the expression of an individual’s whole personality, sensibility, and ability.”
“First character, then ability.”
Peace, Brendan
